This new release on the chart-busting and trail-blazing label that brought the world Liquideep and C.9ine is a funkalicious triple-pack that's undoubtedly going to set the house scene of fire.



BBB SERIES will consist of around 4 hour’s worth of essential listening and easy-kicking grooves that cover the spectrum of new and have-to-have classic South African dance music.



Savvily split up, disc 1 of this display is a hotly-anticipated sophomore artist album from the brightest-burning artist on the BBB roster, Nomarema, who’s had liaisons with labels like House Afrika, SoulCandi; DJs like Glen Lewis; underground clubs like 115; and ultra-talented acts like C.9ine. Titled ‘15th Avenue, it fuses traditional African sounds, Afro-soul, house and acid jazz into a coherent and ultra-funky whole.



The second disc meanwhile represents the beginnings of class SA house tunes and it’s blended by the super -talented Skindeep. Perfectly titled 'Origins', it’s a choice selection of classic South African house cuts created by the likes of DJs At Work, DJ Cleo, Craig Massiv, Tamara Dey, Tim White, Troye Lilley, Sis ‘n Jones, Revolution and more.



The last salvo is tagged 'Deep Soul Grooves' and it’s mixed by Mtoffy. Fittingly for the final installment in this eclectic overview, it features some of the label’s finest like C.9ine, Liquideep and T-Solo, along with internationally - interested entities (like Fish Go Deep) and it firmly represents the future of the label behind this trio of eclectic yet complimentary discs.



It all adds up to the most essential round-up of essential, enlightened and ground-breaking beats the country will ever have the privilege of dancing to.

Deep Xpressions - 'Remedy Grooves'

Busting out of SA’s unofficial beat capital, Pretoria, and launched by the ever-more recognized Bass Breaks &amp; Beats label (home to pop phenomenon Liquideep and underground upstarts, C.9ine, amongst others), Deep Xpression’s debut solo compilation, 'Remedy Grooves', will be keeping a lot of house music enthusiasts warm in the winter of 2011 and beyond.
 
Deep Xpressions (aka K-So and BK) have been disturbing senses and shaking bodies in Tshwane for a number of years, but just lately they have been invading the larger national landscape, with gigs across the country. They have also penetrated the CD-buying market via their contributions to two top-notch – and top-selling – collections, the 4-CD ‘House Afrika Sessions’ and ‘House Afrika Grooves’ releases.
 
‘Sessions’ – their first sortie into the scene, which also included journeys into deep by Liquideep, C.9ine and DJ Thobs - became a Platinum-seller, whilst ‘Grooves’ was a super-deep overview of the Peng label catalogue and the Afro-disco stylings of their label-head, Andy Compton. Both showcased Deep Xpressions’ penchant for pulsating grooves and pretty melodies.
 
Now the duo have stepped out on their own with 'Remedy Grooves', a warm walk through a steady selection of deeply devastating global tracks, including future-classic funk masterpieces from Joshua Iz featuring Diz (remixed by Russ Gabriel), QNB (reworked by Wayne Gardiner), Melchyor A, Stephen Rigmaiden, Rufuss, Reelsoul, The Disclosure Project and Shur-I-Khan.
 
There’s also a very special, exclusive inclusion: “Chasing” by Deep Xpressions’ stable-mates C.9ine, which was picked up for international release and remixed by one of the planet’s finest purveyors of proper house music, the UK’s Martin “AtJazz” Iveson (who also appears elsewhere on the CD alongside Charles Webster as Version on the delirium-inducing "Nothing"). This is the first time "Chasing" (AtJazz Remix) - a gorgeous and dramatic dancefloor number - will be available in SA and it’s certainly one of the disc’s high points. But it's only one of many.
The modus operandi for Deep Xpressions’ song selection is deluxe deepness: tunes that exude class and that are characterized by lush pads, breath taking chords, sumptuous vocals and just the right amount of propulsive bottom end to provide an irresistible momentum. And they’re delectably sequenced into a near-perfect, near-peak-time flow that’s hard to resist.

 
On the strength of this quality collection it’s little wonder this Tshwane twosome is getting so much attention. This disc will just cement their burgeoning reputation for righteous rhythmic manipulation.

When Sakhile Mzizi, Director at Bass Breaks &amp; Beats heralds this, one should listen up. He is after all the guy who’s helped Liquideep rise to the summit of the South African dance scene, assisting them to their “Fairytale” success; the guy whose very first label showcase, ‘House Afrika Sessions’, sold Platinum (and is still selling); the guy who has backed DJs whose beats are on a higher level right now – the likes of DJ Thobs and Deep XPressions.

And on the back of the evidence - C.9ine’s debut artist album - he’s tipped another winner. ‘Sound Garden’ is a startling long-player; quite possibly the classiest dance record ever issued in South Africa - and certainly the most accomplished first effort. It’s the kind of sonic statement that seals the country’s stature as the most essential cauldron for dance music on the planet right now.

A blossoming deep-house masterpiece, ‘Sound Garden’ is the beat-child of Katlehong duo Skitzo &amp; Danny, who’ve been together since 2004 and who have already made dents in dancefloors with tracks like “Heaven Is Here”, and whose promise has already been picked up by a host of international acts, leading to collaborations with the likes of Suges, Fish Go Deep and Gene King. The hook-up on this album is with Israeli deep house expert UPZ, who rework “Sons Of Soul” into a sublime offering that slots perfectly into place alongside eleven other variegated and heavenly cuts.

Mixed into a seamless, non-stop party piece, the ‘Sound Garden’ is an exploration of all that’s lush and deep in modern dance music, and it features immaculate collaborations with Cozmiq (who’s already laced C.9ine track like “I Want You” with memorable vocals), SkinnyPHAT and P’Olivera – a trio whose combined vocal skills (on the superb “Strangers In Japan”) are nothing less than blissful.

Elsewhere there are vernacular vocal snatches, the seductive feminine voice stylings of Kholi, maskandi-inspired guitar picks, warm pads, jazzily-lapping loops, sweeping and techier sounds, the unforgettable and spine-tingling talents of experimental music maverick Joao Orrechia, traces of neo-disco, dramatic organ lines, acoustic guitar flourishes, sumptuous keys and even a dash of spiky electric guitar.

Its closest relative may be the inspired deep sonics of Larry Heard aka Mr. Fingers, but even this is just a brief scent on the floral wind that blows gently through C.9ine’s garden of sonics. They’ve come a long way in the less than two years since their “Dancing On Keys” mix for ‘House Afrika Sessions’, becoming the major planetary music force they were tipped to.

A breeze is sweeping through Mzansi’s entertainment landscape, and with a name that means ‘she who must be admired’, Miranda Mokhele is on a meteoric rise to the top.
Blessed with a smooth, captivating voice, smouldering good looks, and an unmistakable playful spirit, she’s set to take the music world by storm with a first single that promises nothing but timeless, authentic, afro, jazzy and urban sounds in her own unique brand of soul. 
No stranger to the entertainment field, having bagged various acting roles on SABC 1’s Tshisa, Mthunzini.com, E-TV’s Rhythm City, Soweto tv’s  Ziyamporoma as well as SABC 1’s new  youth Programme Walala Wasala she is already being hailed as Mzansi’s next big thing. 
This comes as no surprise, given that at 24, nothing can get this fresh-faced, go-getter down; “I am in this for the long run. I firmly believe that God does not bless one with a specific talent for no reason at all, but to fulfil a purpose. That’s why I bring truckloads of positivity and a newfound resilience which this industry seems to lack”, she asserts.
She certainly doesn’t mince her words either, which should come in handy as this self-proclaimed bookworm pens her soon-to-be-launched debut album.
Raised in the quiet town of Jaggersfontein in the Free State, Miranda Mokhele grew up with music  and Acting practically running through her veins. 
Writing songs and teaching herself how to play the guitar, however, was an instant escape mechanism, she confesses. This, coupled with her first performance at University was her first real glimpse into how much she really loved music.   
With musical icons such as Mama Miriam Makeba, and Lira as her inspiration, her goal of becoming South Africa’s next musical sensation, is no pipe dream. 
“At this point in my career, I’m committed to learning all there is to know about this industry. Music should be timeless; I’d like to be known and remembered as a lady of soul - a performer who tugged at the strings of the heart of the audience and got people grooving to the soulful sounds of her voice”, she says. 
Looking to the future, Miranda has taken on yet another challenge in the form of an acting career. Under the mentorship of Gaenor Becker, who has taken her under her wing  and is teaching her the traits of the acting business, Miranda is cutting her teeth as a children’s acting agent where she secures acting jobs for children – if not herself! 
If her zest for life and relentless determination is anything to go by, this songbird’s is one to watch as she prepares for takeoff!

After teaming up with House Afrika on the Platinum-selling 4-CD ‘Sessions’ set, the fledgling label scored two SAMA nominations: for Best Urban Dance Album (Liquideep’s ‘Oscillations’ mix from that release), and Record of the Year (Liquideep’s “Fairytale”).

More accolades soon followed: after “Fairytale” was play listed on every major station in SA and played on any dancefloor worth its salt, it received a SAMA nomination for Song Of The Year, and won a Channel O Music Video Award in 2010 for ‘Most Gifted Dance Video’.


Liquideep’s ‘Fabrics of the Heart’ album also sold Platinum (40 000+ units) and garnered masses of critical acclaim and award nominations, with Metro FM bestowing two nominations on the duo (for Best Group and Best Urban Dance) and MTV Base putting them in line for a MAMA for Song Of The Year for “Fairytale”.

BBB’s success is not limited to the divine Liquideep duo though: 2010 was a bumper year for the label, with key releases coming from DJ Thobs, a dynamite dancefloor lady (and another contributor to the massive ‘Sessions’), whose third mix CD was one of the smoothest and savviest selections of the year; and C.9ine, who followed up their smash single “Heaven Is Here” and their ‘Dancing On Keys’ mix for ‘Sessions’ with an amazingly classy album titled ‘Sound Garden’. It is, without doubt, one of the most auspicious debuts from a South African act ever.

Added to that there is material in the works from the likes of Deep XPressions, whose smashing set on ‘Sessions’ was complemented by another juicy “journey by DJ” on House Afrika’s Peng label showcase, ‘House Afrika Grooves’; their current release titled “Remedy Grooves’ is already setting SA dancefloors on fire!!!
