Olympic torchbearer Jeremy Adams is a retired engineer from Taunton. He's been nominated to carry the Olympic torch for his dedication to helping the charity Parkinson's UK. He was diagnosed with the disease and spends his time visiting care homes to help others in a similar situation. 

"I was very surprised, they must have had thousands of nominations!"

One of the Olympic torchbearers is 20-year-old Daniel Weston. His father nominated him to carry the flame because although he has autism, Daniel has been busy raising money for charity and competing in Brtish Cycling disability races. We spoke to him after he had carried the flame!

Gary Bentley has been nominated to carry the Olympic flame through Manchester. He set up a charity, "Jamie's Fund" in the memory of his daughter who died ten years ago, and has since raised money for a local primary school and children's hospital. 

"She went off to Brownies and never came back..."

Justine Sheils is 41 years old and is one of the ambassadors for Cancer Research UK, raising awareness for skin cancer. She was nominated to be an Olympic torchbearer for her work on the SunSmart campaign. She carried the flame through Knotty Ash on June 1st 2012. 

"I'm always told there's 'light at the end of the tunnel'. Hopefully this is my light."

At just 17 years old, Holly Hamill has been chosen as an Olympic torchbearer in Belfast. She suffers from Cystic Fibrosis and was selected to be a part of the British National Rhythmic Gymnastics team for Gymnastics and Movement for People with a Disability, where she has won countless medals. 

"Everything else pales in comparison to carrying the torch."

At seventy years of age, Glennis Rogerson from Skegness has found a new way to cope with her arthritis, through teaching Tai Chi. Glennis was nominated to be a torchbearer and carried the flame through Skegness on 27th June. 

"A lot of us in the Tai Chi class are disabled; we help each other. We're just a happy family."

Edward Quinn has been nominated to carry the Olympic flame after setting up a charity in memory of his wife who died of a brain tumour, called Brainwaves. Edward carried the flame through Quorn on 3rd July.

Seventy-five year old Dot Fraser was nominated to be an Olympic torchbearer for Lincoln. In 2010, Dot won the silver medal for the 100m and 200m at the European Masters Track and Field Championships in Hungary. Here's her story. 

"To think I saw that in 1948 and now I'm taking part this year, it's wonderful."

Mark Healey is a gay rights campaigner from London. He founded the charity 17-24-30 to raise awareness and put a stop to hate crimes, following the nail bomb attack in Soho in 1999. Mark has been nominated to carry the Olympic flame through Lewisham on 23rd July. 


"I'm carrying it for those who should be there but aren't, as they've been victims of hate crime."

Lynda from Tower Hamlets in London spoke to us on World Have Your Say about the use of the phrase 'choc ice' which was used in a tweet directed at Ashley Cole, after he defended John Terry who was appearing in court accused of making racist comments. A choc ice is a chocolate coated vanilla ice-cream. Rio Ferdinand tweeted approvingly about the phrase, calling it ''classic''. He says the phrase is a slang term for someone who is being fake, but some have called it racist.
