Advice for the DJs, producers and artists of our community: Being a DJ is a really personal and vulnerable way to express yourself. You're telling a story through your music and taking people on a journey through sound. So trust your taste! If you play the music you love, your crowd will enjoy what you're playing. If you're new to the industry, find a more experienced DJ to help mentor you. They will learn from you just as much as you will learn from them. 

If you're a more experienced artist, reach out and build a community! Being a DJ can be lonely sometimes, particularity if you're from a marginalized community. If you're fortunate enough to have the knowledge, experience and gear, share it. Invite less experienced DJs over to practice and play together. DJ equipment can be expensive and isn't always accessible to everyone. Demand that your dance floor is a safer space, free from aggression, judgement, gendering and othering. Respect other DJs and hey, don't forget to have fun!!

Hello Friends!
Thank you so much for having me on the Deep End! I hope you enjoy my freshest mix, THE DEEP STATE. My sets are never planned. Except for the bookends (the "death" of HAL 9000 in 2001: Space Odyssey), this was a fun, freeform set, as my profession in the late late night crowds allows me to. :) I like to paint a narrative arc in my sets, cinematic and saturated with color. I thought of San Diego when making this set; mixing sounds reminiscent of music I was raised on here, a buoyant blend of laser synth, house, Italo, nu-disco and even goth industrial. Though this was ostensibly a techno party, Earth Boys' early-evening set delivered the unpretentious vibe often heard in '90s house. That's the sound you'll hear on their debut album, eboys. Sherburn and his production partner, Julian C. Duron, are pals with roots in Brooklyn's creative underground.
