The list of musical highlights for Vincent Williams aka DJ Spinna are too numerous to list, from his seminal hip hop duo Jigmastas and DJ sets across the globe, to his iconic solo productions and remixes. But if you ask him, it's the relationship he's forged with personal hero Stevie Wonder that Spinna considers to be his single greatest achievement.
As with most artists of a soulful persuasion, Stevie's music influenced Spinna from the outset, dictating everything from his approach to writing to his use of Fender Rhodes and Moog bass-lines on his productions. Having gained so much from the great man, Spinna decided to pay tribute in the form of 'Wonderfull', a series of parties celebrating the Wonder of Stevie. This is where the story became somewhat surreal for Spinna, suddenly finding himself joined onstage in Washington D.C. by none other than Stevie himself, a spine-tingling moment even when viewed on YouTube.
An extension of the Wonderfull parties, this album represents a celebration of the life, music and cultural impact of Stevie Wonder. Few compilers can boast Spinna's understanding of Stevie's back catalogue, not to mention the large number of songs he's written for other artists over the years. Featuring stunning cover versions you may well have never heard before alongside songs many of us had no idea he'd written, Spinna's vast knowledge of and boundless enthusiasm for Stevie's music shines with every selection. Celebrating 20 years of Barely Breaking even, independent UK record label presents a series of exclusive DJ mixes to mark the occasion. Available in both mixed and unmixed formats, the series includes a stellar lineup of DJs, selecting their personal favourites and obscure gems from BBE's bounty of classic titles.

The first BBE20 mix in the series comes from highly respected UK DJ and mix-tape specialist Chris Read, the man behind BBC New Music Award winning electronica outfit Maylight and compiler of BBE's 2012 album 'Latin Concrete', which was featured as 'Album Of The Week' by the Independent newspaper. The first of two mixes produced by Chris in celebration of BBE's 20th birthday, the first installment guides the listener on a journey through some of BBE's sultry downtempo and hip hop cuts, steadily making its way toward warm soul and disco, expertly building up momentum over the course of 23 genre-hopping tracks in the mix's 65 minute run-time.

Taken from 'Low-Fi Classics’, the debut album by Lisbon-based producer Mr Bird and UK vocalist Greg Blackman, 'Over Again' has won fans the world over thanks to its sun-drenched and infectious soul stylings. Championed by UK legend Ashley Beedle, the track was recently issued on super-limited vinyl via Jo Wallace's Ramrock Blue label complete with a special version by 'Godfather of the Disco 12"' Tom Moulton. Although Moulton's mix is exclusive to the (already hard to find) 12" release, we've secured a delightful selection of remixes for the track's BBE release.

Commencing our expanded package is the version which first brought 'Over Again' international acclaim. Ashley Beedle's 'North Street Mix' is typically soulful and smooth, with one eye on the dance-floor. Laid-back hand-claps and shimmering strings provide a backdrop for jazzy keys and a killer disco-flavoured bassline. Introducing itself with latin keys and jazzy guitar licks, Lisbon's Gilles Cardoni's remix lays down a rock-solid House groove complete with sun-drenched latin keys. Sam Palmer's 'Unplugged' mix switches up the chords beautifully, re-imagining 'Over Again' as a smooth jazz record with a distinctly Balearic sunset feel. The original album version and an instrumental are also included for those who missed this highly addictive song the first time around.

Founded in 1996 by Peter Adarkwah, Barely Breaking Even (BBE Music) started life as a London club night, taking its name from the eponymous Disco record by the Universal Robot Band.

The label grew from the vibrant early 90's club scene with its first release, Stop & Listen compiled by Dr Bob Jones in 1996, opening the door to iconic series' such as All Back To Mine & Late Nite Tales.

A tonne of releases followed, ranging from Disco to Funk, Jazz to House. In the year 2000, the label celebrated Masters at Work's 10th Anniversary with a mighty box set that featured near 80 tracks.

A year later BBE Music spawned the Beat Generation Series of artist albums, notably introducing J Dilla (Welcome 2 Detroit) & a young Will.I.Am's first solo outing, alongside DJ Jazzy Jeff, Madlib & DJ Spinna, all of whom contributed to this seminal set of long players.

A quarter of a century and well over 500 titles later, having worked with Mark Ronson, Roy Ayers, Questlove, Hugh Masekela, DJ Premier, Dimitri from Paris, Joey Negro, Kon, RZA, Laurent Garnier, Black Coffee, DJ Shadow, David Rodigan and John Morales among many others, BBE Music looks to the future, celebrating its rich heritage while continuing to release a bounty of fresh titles.

The label’s most recent projects include an expansive reissue series from pioneering Nigerian label Tabansi, new imprint ‘Batakari’ in association with Boddhi Satva and the critically acclaimed ‘J Jazz’ Japanese Jazz multi-album project, not to mention the recent landmark 500th label release: a brand new version of 'Barely Breaking Even', featuring Leroy Burgess, Patrick Adams and Louie Vega.

In 2021 BBE Music is celebrating its 25th anniversary. To mark this milestone, the label is offering up some special projects, from the 20th Anniversary edition of J Dilla’s ‘Welcome 2 Detroit’, through David Bowie tribute album ‘Modern Love’, to a special new ‘Worldwide’ compilation from old friend Gilles Peterson.
