Short Cuts: The Magician By Axel Kacoutié [CLIP]

Humbly describing himself as a composer of "music with repetitive structures", composer Philip Glass' post-minimalist sound was born out of his study of atonal music, the work of Steve Reich and his fascination with sitarist Ravi Shankar. Throughout the course of the late 20th century, Glass has composed music for opera, popular film, his own ensemble and has earned popular and critical acclaim from the likes of David Bowie and Brian Eno.

For the first time in our 25-year history, we are releasing a live solo recording by Craig Richards from the club. 

“This mix was recorded on the second of December at a Continuum party. I commenced just after five and finished at nine. The heady combination of nostalgia coupled with the past, the future and more importantly my daughter dancing next to me, resulted in a mix that I felt happy with. Historically, I have been very self-critical and have chosen not to release many mixes. Across nearly four hours this one seems to encapsulate the twenty five years of playing at fabric. In 1998 I was invited by Keith Reilly to play weekly at what was an imaginary nightclub. I had no idea that experience would continue for so many years. Playing vinyl on that sound system and mixer is highly exciting and a joy in itself. I am delighted that this has been my method of sonic communication and remain deeply grateful for my ongoing residency.” - Craig Richards


Craig will be joining us at the club on 30th March to celebrate his 25-year residency with a 25-hour Continuum party.

Kristina May presents The Mushroom Explorer. Mushrooms grow from the Earth, and they don’t fit neatly into any of the Kingdoms of living things. They can stretch from the earth to animals, even to the human body. But there’s one undeniable thing about these creatures: they are incredible communicators. Through their mycelia, they can pick up all sorts of messages, from weather changes to the experiences of other mushrooms. In fact, they’ve mastered the fastest and most intelligent form of communication long before the internet ever existed.
We are all Mushroom Explorers to some extent. We are all searching for our own definitions. We all travel to find what matters - both in mind and physically, embedding definitions and getting rid of them, communicating them to the universe, going on infinite journeys, successful or not. Hence whether the journey is enjoyable at the time or not, you may return to find a completely different experience every time – which is the essence of being alive. So in the end, the Mushroom Explorer captures so much, but not everything and nothing at all—after all, it’s confined to a one-hour show. There’s so much more to share.. 
Kristina May is a London-based musician from Transnistria. On one side, Kristina explores deep meditative sounds, trans-inducing Sonics, sequences with subtle changes of rhythms and patterns. On the other side, they are concerned with contrasts in music, cacophony and harmony, noise and silence. They seek colour in music and from there comes the journey they take you to. From their more experimental excursions to the relentless obscure beats, one will always find something exotic and interesting to hold on to.
