It begins with a sound. A slow grinding beneath the surface, as if the mountain itself were breathing.

Far up in the north, the entire city of Kiruna is being moved. Neighborhoods disappear, houses and offices are lifted from their foundations, and the church is slowly rolled away in front of visiting TV crews while the mining company keeps digging deeper into the ground.

In Tills marken blir vår igen (“Until the Ground Is Ours Again”), Ella Sikku sings from the quiet space between progress and grief, where childhood streets turn into frost-cracked ghost avenues. She moves between Nordic alt-pop and electronic melancholy, her voice gliding through ice-blue synthscapes and muted beats, calm yet unyielding, with a pervasive sense of quiet resistance. Because what else can you do when home isn’t where it used to be?

In a sound that evokes neon reflections on wet asphalt and the static hum of a tape machine, Josef Love finds his true self. Open Wide is the sound of him scraping the polish off his old grooves, where neo-soul collides with old-school hip-hop, driven by live, dusty instrumentation that breathes, bleeds, and sometimes limps.

Recorded at Bagarstudion in Luleå with producer Frithiof Stenvall, Open Wide feels like something that could have leaked from a late-night basement session. It’s raw, magnetic, and just unhinged enough to feel dangerous, chasing groove and imperfection instead of symmetry.

“I wanted it to feel alive, rather than perfect,” Josef says. “That’s where it stops being sound and starts being music.”

The lyrics urge honesty: open your heart, your mind, show your wounds, and be present.

You may have seen him on TV, on tour, or on stage with brass bands and choirs. But this is different — looser, dirtier, more human. The true Josef Love, stripped of gloss and other people’s expectations.

Open Wide

There’s a certain silence that follows a breakup, a kind of forensic quiet where every memory becomes evidence and every flicker of regret feels like a clue, even though it won’t lead anywhere. “Crime Scene”, the new single from northern Swedish americana rock band Little Stream, lives in that silence.

Produced together with Björn Pettersson Thuuri (Willy Clay Band, Malmfältens Rockklubb), the track fuses delicate folk intimacy with cinematic tension. An acoustic guitar lingers teasingly through brittle, brooding progressions, each note echoing like footsteps in an empty house, while Anna Svensson Rova’s voice trembles between grief, clarity and solemn resignation.

“I got chalk on my hands / I’ve been laying in my bed / I’m dreaming in the shimmer of a screen…”
It is a song about collapse and aftermath, where all that remains is the outline of what once was living and breathing.

Following their 2024 debut album For You Anyway, “Crime Scene” marks a deeper turn in Little Stream’s sound. Rooted in the band’s northern heritage and their shared fascination with what could have been, memories both true and imagined, and the quiet poetry of broken things, the track captures heartbreak with stark simplicity. It is observant, almost clinical, with an unflinching eye for detail, while the drama quietly unravels between the lines.

“Crime Scene” is the first single from Little Stream’s upcoming sophomore album and will be released on December 5 on all major streaming platforms.

Loving Embers don’t write breakup songs. They write about the uneasy hours after, when clarity feels like another form of numbness. I Got It sits in that space where two people drift out of sync, still circling the memory of when everything made sense.

The track unravels like an argument you keep having with yourself: logic on one shoulder, longing on the other. “I got it, clearer now,” sings Fredrika Johansson, but the line lands like self-deception, a truth too clean to be real.

Musically, I Got It channels Warpaint’s moody nerve, Amason’s fiery undercurrent and The Cardigans’ effortless pop sensibility, all filtered through the band’s own Nordic melancholy. Guitars flicker instead of shimmer, drums sway rather than drive, and Frithiof Stenvall’s production lets every hesitation hang in the air. It’s less about resolution than recognition, the moment you realize you’re holding on to someone who’s already let go.

Huzzah! The lo-fi pessimist Markus Hauptmann barges onto the dance floor, ready to shake whatever fuzz he’s got left. A rattling lo-fi groove with no delays, no disclaimers, no way to dodge it. A pop song built on ups and downs, smiles and frowns, minor sighs and major highs in any kind of weather. There are no bad conditions—just leather vests on stubborn chests—when you’ve got a proper banger built to swing and sting.

But really, Markus is doing what he always does. He writes and records at home in Ersnäs, where the hiss, the echo, and the room itself shape the sound. Simple lo-fi where the mic catches the real before it chases the ideal. His voice stacks dream on dream; his guitar is percussion, orchestra and crooked compass all at once—steady as a row of birch trees in the fog of an uncertain autumn.

Lately, the rhythm has claimed even more space: hollowed-out grooves on lacquered wood, quick takes thrown on top of each other until something unexpected starts breathing. And in the middle of it all, Markus keeps carving out small, crystal-clear landscapes you can happily get lost in. Music that becomes an extension of the room, the time, and the hands that made it happen.

Pain is universal. We all hurt, cry, bitch and moan. We suffer in small, private microcosms while surrounded by catastrophe, accidents, crime, terror and systematic injustice. We learn to rank it all. To read about famine while cursing the papercut. To keep moving through our own personal hailstorm while nodding solemnly at the wreckage around us. We might call it perspective, or maybe adulthood.

But there is a moment earlier on when none of that exists. When pain feels singular. Personal. Unprecedented in its numbness-inducing weight, its void, its bite. When you are absolutely certain that no one has ever hurt like you.

“Hurt Like Us”, Little Stream’s second single from their upcoming album, approaches that moment with clear-eyed tenderness.  Because pain does not have to be unique to be real.

Little Stream are a Stockholm-based country and indie band with roots in Sweden’s northern mining region, the Malmfälten. They released their debut album For You Anyway in 2024, establishing a restrained, narrative-driven sound shaped by isolation,  the feeling of existing outside the bubble of relevance, far from where decisions are made.
