Beads - Quickiiiie

This set never saw the light of day. Absolutely heaving night from start to end down in Tasmania with the one and only Spoonbill featuring bulk legends. Many a sweaty fellow with gherkins and lube flowing on the dancefloor. I unfortunately forgot to record on the night and this was a quick re-take batttle mix that is no where near as tight or noice, but can enjoy some of the fruits if you wish. Some older Australian bass music in there for the joy. An absolute dream to play after the legendary Spoonbill who has been a long time favourite and inspiration.

This is the first set I have uploaded in over 3 years, primarily because I forget to press record. I played 2 hours of chill, funk, and soul on my last night in Alice Springs recently before friends jumped up for a big ol lush jam. Plenty of old and new delicious choons, mixing is neither here nor there, just on the fly and what I felt like at the time. Guaranteed to be something in derrr for everyone!

Jump Inn Alice Springs

A cheeky upload of a set I played out bush in Alice Springs for an alien vs cowboy themed party Western Terrestrial. I played after the eclectic Lackluster  (https://soundcloud.com/lacklustermusic), so I transitioned from his progressive house set into what we have here. The set was mixed on the fly to match the vibe of the party. Quite a few cheesy numbers in here.

I also played a sunrise psytrance/progress set which I will likely upload soon enough, and was fortunate enough to play for another few hours throughout the Sunday tearing through some of the older weirder parts of my collection.

Before there was beads there was hsp... the happy sound possum. This set is over 10 years old now and just found it again. Thought I would upload it in all its 160kbps VBR quality. This is an ode to Brisbane clubbing/indoor vibes compared to my love for the outdoor dancefloor.

Sundee Fluff Stuff (2011)

This is the first of a continuing series of podcasts/mixes based around the music I find and discover while studying week to week. Each episode will contain a combination of new and old choons from an array of genres I dig, from electronic and hip-hop through to reggae. The focus is on non-dancefloor orientated music designed for laid back affairs or hours of study - a studious vacation. The inspiration comes from a mix a friend made yeaaaaars ago titled studious vacation which seems quite suitable. 

Every song is chosen for a reason and I hope you get the same amount of joy and happiness from them as I do. I primarily make these for personal listening but feel the need to share hoping some one else will enjoy it just as much. A huge thank-you to the amazing artists who make this beautiful, beautiful music - it makes me happy as balls. Let me know which tracks you enjoy and I'll include more of that in future editions.

Studious Vacation #001 - Orientation

I recently had the opportunity to submit a 'creative piece' which I've never had the chance to do at university. I was pretty rushed for time but I managed to put this together.... The piece is centred around a community based placement I did at a psychiatric disability rehabilitation service. We were only allowed 200 words to accompany this sheezy - pretty wanky but you get the idea. 

A musical journey into the minds of the Mentally ill.

This piece serves not only as a reflection of the myriad nuances of a life defined by mental illness, but a metaphor for the capacity for emotion and the psychiatric condition to transcend the bounds of language. This piece utilises the universal language of music to traverse the landscape of mental illness elucidating the dramatic and fluctuating terrain of the mind. The music and samples encompassed in this journey reflects my experience at **** Psychiatric Disability Rehabilitation Service. Each song portrays these varying experiences through the title, lyrics, mood, atmosphere and additionally overlaid samples that are brought forth and developed. This musical journey will aim to explore themes of love, opportunity and clarity, through to the more sinister aspects of mental health - paranoia, fear, and confusion.  From the outset, Sigur Rós illustrate the beginning of my time at **** through their constructed language, Vonlenska. Devoid of semantic meaning, their lyrics symbolise the difficulty in ‘defining’ and understanding mental illness. My time at **** highlighted the importance of listening, without judgement, enabling one to effectively comprehend the intricacies of the psychiatric condition. I implore the listener to immerse him or herself to experience my interpretation of mental illness, an illness that individuals often endure for the remainder of their life.
