Today we premiere a steamrolling track from formative techno producer Invexis as he makes his return to the techno mainframe, following a twenty year absence from music releases. Invexis’s landmark return to releasing music comes on SHDW & Obscure Shape’s label Mutual Rytm as he merges pinnacle old-school attitudes with present-day techniques.

SHDW & Obscure Shape‘s ethos of merging the past with the present and future, harnessing classic techno influences and shaping them into the sounds of tomorrow has sculpted a rather unique and charismatic place for home for techno through their label Mutual Rytm. The imprint has been the breeding ground for some of techno’s most exciting up and coming names, while also shedding light on some established producer’s that have been carving out the path for future generations.

Their next release welcomes a long-awaited return from Georg Köhler, aka Invexis. Known for releases such as ‘Kalibreur’ on Salpeter Records and ‘Chiffre’ on Planet Rhythm Records, with further releases via Compound and Kazumi, the German talent crafted and shaped his own sound within the techno landscape in the early 2000s. Returning with his first EP release in close to two decades, late December welcomes a return to Mutual Rytm, following on from the inclusion of his track ‘Elektronenwind’ on the label’s ‘Federation Of Rytm I’ release, as he delivers a selection of dynamic, melodic and driving techno offerings across ‘Odyssey’.

Today we premiere ‘Non Return To Zero’ a kaledsocipc look into what makes the Invexis sound so prolific, inspiring and radically idiosyncratic. This gem seems like a time machine into the early 2000’s as Invexis captures sinuous grooves like no other, the German producer grasps and hurls synthesizers with an alarming amount of urgency, yet remains eerily slick and effortlessly funky.

For the 6th Frenzy instalment, we’re hitting close to home as residents Beau Didier & Isaiah step in. Although these stars on the rise need little to no introduction, it feels like the right moment to have a moment to shed light on the ethos of this Dutch-producing duo. Both having roots in the Dutch rave scene, they carved out a true-to-the-core approach to techno, becoming highly functional to keep dancefloors around the globe rolling without any stop to it. They deliver a 6-track storyline that lives up to that craft including remixes by Italian Hertz Collision & Belgium techno-pioneer Steve Redhead.

‘Workin’ introduces the A-side and sets the scene for the EP with vibey rhythms and blissful vocals. The ‘Change’ gets naughty with sway-induced low-ends and striking highs sure to make hips shake across the dancefloor. Landing down from up-high energy, Hertz Collision delivers an atmospheric remix with hypnotic elements and a darker touch. On the B-side, the two residents take over the steering wheel again, which can be felt immediately. ‘Fusion’ is a track that takes repetitive motion to another level, the type of track that makes you stay longer in the morning hours. To close off with elegance - ‘CD-Rom’ elevates to gracious states with enchanting spheres and spells.

Adding another dimension to it all, Steve Redhead delivers two remixes of which one is a digital bonus. Words can’t live up to the force, this is a transition back to the 00s hard techno era.

The second original track by Noëtik contrasts the title track Ignition Fluid well as it creates a way more dream-like picture in the head of the listener. Chopped, echoing vocal shots fainting through the room contribute to the feeling of lightness and comfort the track undoubtedly triggers in the audience. The lead synth sequence gives this track its defining tone by adding a lot of dynamics to the track, making it a strong addition to more ambient-leaning sets and play styles.

A remix of Lao Cha Guan by John Huie and the Clear Wind Band, of the Shanghai Jazz Group. John Huie spent 20 years studying Shidaiqu, the Chinese Jazz music of the '20s and '30s. Check out the two albums: Shanghai Jazz and Shanghai Jazz 2.
