In 1951 Lillian Claiborne, the 53-year-old proprietor of DC Records and former New York fashion designer with a bent for music, was able to land contracts with RCA Victor for several of her new R&B artists including The Heartbreakers vocal group. Trumpeter, Frank 'Two Horn' Motley, was nominally under contract to another record company at the time. That might explain why this outstanding jump, 'When Two Horn Motley Gets Hot,' was never recorded at RCA. Only released briefly on the collector-oriented Roadhouse label in the early 1970s, this is a fine example of how a vocal group and a raucous R&B combo could come together for a rocking performance.
