Beastie Respond 'Glacier Dance'

Two tracks I recorded as a remixing-my-own-music-but-with-a-band-experiment. I think these are some of the strongest tracks off last years album, and at the same time these were the two tracks best suited for interpreting with a live band. We recored almost everything at the same time, to acquire a more organic sound. 

The guys that I recorded with are all, with one exception, old band mates that I used to play with, before focussing strictly on my own sound. They were the natural choice, because I knew that we would play together well. The exception is Rewolmer, who I had only known for a shorter period of time before this, but we had a good chemestry and a more or less common taste in music and I knew that he could play keys, so I invited him on board. He also plays with me live today, when we are booked for live sets. 

I hope you all like these more organic, more psychedelic versions of the original tracks, Initial and VV10.

Prior to the event "Bas Under Buen" in Copenhagen this summer I wanted to make an edit of a well known track to have something recognizable to play to everyone there. This is what I came up with.

Beastie Respond - Syncopy (Teal Recordings)

The seventh release on Copenhagens Teal Recordings is a little hint of what can be expected from Beastie Respond very first full length album and the first album project on the label. The album is entitled Fictitious Nostalgia – for Tobias, this is a title that fits his own overall feeling and the way he perceives the album sonically and style-wise. With his 23 years of age he has never experienced the 80’s first hand, but in a strange way he feels musically connected with this period of time. This fictitious nostalgia is what is being expressed on the album.  
The A-side on the EP is a collaboration between Beastie Respond and the anonymous singer Alia Fresco. The very slightly melancholic and soulful vibes makes this song a worthy successor to Beastie Respond’s debut release Syncopy. This track has received frequent radio airplay in Denmark as well as Londons Rinse.fm and gained support from the likes of dBridge, Loxy and Blocks. 
B1 is the only actual drum n bass track off the album. It has a real dusty and hazy vibe. The title UL90 refers to a certain casette tape which was used for recording several of the tracks for this tune. 
B2 is exclusively to be found on the album sampler and will not be a part of the actual album. However, the track’s aesthetics is roughly the same as with the album, but put into a more distinct contemporary context.

As a child, when Tobias Hjørnet Pedersen discovered that everything has a sound, he became obsessed with rhythms and the tones of different materials. As a result of this youthful discovery Pedersen decided to pick up the drums...

...Several years later he joined a Reggae and Ska band in his hometown, and over the years developed a taste for mixing genres that wouldn’t necessarily fit seamlessly together in the first or second try but nonetheless would end up blending. This urge to fuse elements from different musical periods and styles has been the key drive in the creation of the Beastie Respond moniker.

The development of Beastie Respond’s sound started in the upper secondary school, though it wasn’t until four years later he came up with something he was confident showing to a larger audience.

Beastie Respond signed with the Danish label Teal Recordings in 2010, which released his debut EP in the summer of 2011, followed by another two EPs and his debut album “Fictitious Nostalgia” in 2013. Releasing one’s debut album is a milestone for any artist, and from there on Beastie Respond spent the following years redeveloping his sound again.

2016 brought the release of the EP ‘Back to the Future’ on RDG’s Circle Vision imprint. The EP took Pedersen’s taste for high intensity melodic synth music into a more modern realm.

With a persistent reluctance to stay in the same place for too long as well as a compulsive disengagement with the genres that tread water, Beastie Respond started working on his sophomore album in late 2015, and is now ready to present it publicly. The album ‘Information City’ will be released on the young Berlin based label Foul-Up. With the album, Pedersen reflects on an increasingly digitized society and what it is doing to us as citizens and humans, for better and for worse.
