Beatroots brings together some intriguing new steppa rhythms. A full length feature of some of his deep dubstep, garage and bass music. The meandering poly-rhythmic pad and chord progression, moves seamlessly in between the intelligent percussion. They cling to the deep rumbling bass tones which hold up the subtle, yet intricate structure of the Beaten Root. The rigorous selection process which Saxon undertook to finally compiling this album, has brought plenty of pleasure and bass aches to his ears. In this release, Saxon shows to us a tool which he was unsure to show at first. But decided that the message sung deemed it worthy. Track three, 'Solid Soul'. A minimal drum and bass feature with a twist of conscious lyricism, technical sound design and tactile textured bass lines, betrays yet another glimpse in to the extensive tastes that Saxon is inspired by.

The five other tracks take on the form of Bass Music & Deep Dubstep. Each with it's own vibe and hypnotic, perpetual crescendo. 'Mood Movement' and 'Rune Stone' bring on a techy dub and chord marauder high. Loaded with perpetual grooves and deepness that'll make those closed eye lids flicker along double time to that tappin' toe. 'The Lesson' and the remix of Circular's 'Constructive'. Recuperates the mind, body and soul by representing the importance of ritual and ceremony. Emotional and evocative, passionate and true. With bass lines to rattle the lungs within their ribcage. Last, but certainly not least, 'Sailor'. An experimental piece, that drives forward upon a half time Psytrance beat. Technical squelches and sound design accompanied by a few addictive licks from Saxon's accordion. Hence the name, 'Sailor'. In the near future, there is to be an assortment of 'Sailor' remixes due for release on Saxon's label, Triple Drop Productions. Keep an ear out and a toe to the ground, as I'm sure the rumble of their approach shouldn't be hard to miss.

The four reworks of the two tracks, Renegade & Sailor are rich and full of character. Diversified with alternative pathways in comparison to the original source production. Even though one can quite plainly recognize that the similarities to the original are present. Each artist has demonstrated a unique stamp in their remix. Pioneering their own creative disciplines to astound us with an ingenious range of style, emotion, rhythm and groove.

‘Beatroots’ is the project of deep minimal and intelligent beats by, Saxon Higgs. Saxon's direction ventures to the depths of bass timbre stimulation. In comparison to his alternative alias, 'Brujo's Bowl'. Beatroots' focus resides in a multi genre landscape of possibilities. Bass music in a multitude of eclectic forms, emotionally driven crescendo accompanied by polyrhythmic chord play and satisfying beats. Clever sound design and evocative melody revolve with these beats to create a layered symbiotic goodness that will keep the listener hooked to perpetual movement. His productions are simple yet satisfying. Like many things in life, this realization invigorates his own unique characteristics in bass music and the minimal styles of dub and drum and bass. The grooves and the intelligent, yet quirky sound that Saxon channels via his existence shall strike a chord in the tastes of many listeners.
