Over three hours of ambient and rolling rhythms from a master of minimal.

Since his early days as a resident at the legendary Montreal afterhours club Stereo, Maher Daniel has been a stalwart in the world of minimal-leaning house music. It was there that he learned and mastered the foundations of his style: deep melodies, rolling beats, extended mixes, all put together with a wash of psychedelia. 

Following a move to Barcelona, the Palestinian-Canadian DJ more firmly struck out on his own, appearing on Lee Burridge's world-conquering All Day I Dream label before starting his own, The Other Side, in 2016. The Other Side has become an important outpost for a kind of dance music that blends old-school microhouse sensibilities with the rolling basslines and three-dimensional sound design of Rominimal, notably through a series of collaborations with Ricardo Villalobos with the <a href=/reviews/24551><i>Changes</i></a> EP trilogy.

During the pandemic, Daniel also started dipping his toes into ambient music, which starts off this epic, three-hour-plus mix before it plunges into rolling rhythms. He takes the time to stretch out here, mixing plenty of his own work with tracks from Jesper Dahlbäck, Cristi Cons, Dexter and, of course, Ricardo Villalobos, ending with a stunning custom breakbeat edit of Global Communication's ambient techno epic "14:31."

We meet with unusual events this year, be it a haze in winter, or more like a late snowfall in spring. We are so happy to host our next mixtape by our dear friend Mattmosphere.

In the past we know Matt for his special sound and way of playing music. Based mainly on ambient and experimental atmospheres. Today he has given us an extraordinary set that represents the sound that is usually directed towards clubs and dancefloors, perhaps as a celebration of having them back after a long wait. Us being big fans of minimal and house, could not feel a better fit.

This is a special release no doubt. Deepchord, Deepnaut, Pulshar and Braulio Lam were specifically chosen to head up this treasured task of taking Linval's 'World Crisis' into their realms.

'World Crisis' is Linval's message and it is as definitive as ever. The overall traditional dub concept is to feature different voices over the same instrumental where this, flips the script and each version has a different electronic music producer add their talents to create their own signature account.

The Deepnaut version shimmers in a euphoric glow that covers you like a sun on the beach in summer. Linval's voice is front and center and one could say this may be the most single oriented as it uses the most vocals of any of the renditions here.

Braulio Lam's submission has all the makings of a classic styled dub track. While the beat is transcendent, everything else is processed in a new school way. And the technique is next level to be clear.

Next is Deepchord's version. To say this is the deepest and most techno might not be much of a surprise. The groove is addictive and the chords sampled into the rhythm while the melody ebbs and flows are pure magic.

Lastly, Pulshar breaks things down to the starkest of the choices and one of the most hypnotic. Pablo Bolivar and Sergio Sainz Vidal from Pulshar have a knack for injecting some dark and deep island vibes to the electronic scene.

The artwork respects the history of dub culture while advancing the application as it uses AI generated images combined with human elements.

♫ Weihnachten, was für eine Zeit!
Seit gut zwei Jahren segelt euer Käpt’n nun schon über die Meere und präsentiert euch mit dem »Seasidetrip« Geschichten rund um Strand, Wellen, Meerjungfrauen, Beachparties und die Sehnsucht nach dem Meer. Viele (musikalische) Geschichten wurden erzählt, unzählige Meter an Seemannsgarn gesponnen und viel zu wenige Rumfässer geleert. Die Musik und die Liebe dazu, sie hat uns alle zusammengebracht und lässt uns nah sein. Weihnachten, da wird auch eurem Käpt’n Rolandson anders und er starrt auf das Wasser und hängt seinen Gedanken nach. Wir haben uns in Skandinavien, in einem Fjord von Norwegen, ein Winterquartier gesucht. Die Landschaft, die besondere Atmosphäre hier, sie lassen Gedanken, Gefühle und Musik miteinander verfließen und eins werden. Der Wind weht über das Deck, kalt und klar, wie der blaue Himmel und es gibt warmen Grog. Auf den Reisen der letzten Monate kreuzten immer wieder zwei Junge Matrosen den Weg, mal war es deren »Seaman’s Love« Mix oder der extravagante »Deep October Mix« bei unserer Freundin Prya von Getting Deeper, welche exakt die Stimmung vom Käpt’n einfingen und beschrieben. So kam es, dass sie gemeinsam los schipperten und eine Seasidetrip WATERKANT SCHWOF Party bespielten - daraus ist eine wachsende Freundschaft entstanden, welche hoffentlich anhält und noch weitere wunderbare Früchte tragen wird. Die Rede ist von dem Duo Ninze & Okaxy, vom Reich Und Schön Kollektiv / Lush Life aus Leipzig. Ihr musikalisches Talent und ihre Liebe zu den deepen, langsameren Sounds haben 2014 bereits viele aufhorchen lassen und in Verzückung versetzt. In eurem Käpt’n reift über die letzten zwei Monate der Wunsch, mit genau den Beiden das X-Mas Special für 2014 zu präsentieren. Ein wenig Glück, viel Liebe und die IO - Afterhour, am 13.12.2014 in Leipzig, sollten den Wunsch möglich werden lassen. Dort spielten sie ein 3-stündiges Set, welches sie aufnahmen und nun exklusiv beim Seasidetrip veröffentlichen. Oh Freude schöner Götterfunken, Tochter aus … und so weiter, ja, wir betreten Feuertrunken, das Heiligtum .. die entschleunigte Tanzfläche, auf der Raum-Zeit-Achse.

Yaman is traditionally sung during the first quarter of the night.

Raga Yaman is a night raga which is very romantic in nature. This raga is often taught to beginners in Hindustani music. Some say its origin is from the Persian mode "Ei'man" from which "Yaman" originated. Others say it has Vedic origins as Raga Yamuna which over time altered as Yaman. 

Moods: bhakti, gambhir, shringar, serene, haunting 

This raga is also called Kalyan or Yaman-Kalyan. The raga has all shuddha swars except for the tivra Ma. It is this note which gives the raga its distinctive quality of peace, and tranquility. Some modernists consider Yaman, Yaman-Kalyan, and Kalyan to be one raga and only traditionalists consider these as three distinct ragas.
