A Practice of the Score: 11/30/25 - HW selection

Set and Setting:  This was a set I put together in my bedroom a weekend after practicing twice before. I am filled to the brim with sadness and anger due to family issues and it has been a hard Thanksgiving season. I am slowly but surely learning to make my whole life a prayer.

Banyana by DJ Maphorisa [10:08; doing a lot with the low pass filter here lmao, we are underwater. I was trying to feel into what this button does. Honesty it kind of works, lol.)

Notorious by Malaa [14:06 This transition also wasn’t perfect but I was clearly trying to see something. There’s a deep listening I detect in me when listening back to this and I’m feeling into it and it feels like progress.] 

Uyanakekela (Instrumental) [ 20:27] I almost pulled the volume down too fast here but I mostly caught myself).

Mercedes (feat. Kyaku Kyadaff) Manoo remix [27:47: This transition is fire, like actually orgasmic. )

Bullerengue (feat. Orito Cantora) Extended Mix [34:00: There’s a tiny volume shift, its like I’m hesitant because Im still trying to figure out how to finesse the volume controls. 

Touched You (Nico Morano Remix) [37:50 this is 5 getting into 2 territory, but I start to slow it down which feels nice around 37:07; still transition is a little abrupt. Future self: remove mids in transition before completely lowering the volume of the outgoing song.]

City Rains feat Mque by Mobi Dixon. [45:00 This is also a 2 at times but honestly the score is in a range of ~ 2-3

Pastel by Polar Inc. [The most incredible fuck-up ending/ever lmao. Brace for a nervous system jolt. I tried to salvage it the best I could but basically I pressed the loop button and for some reason the song started over. I still need to figure how to make it so that doesn’t happen.]

“The Game is Mine, Nobody do it Better.”  - A Practice of the Score: 11/29/25

Context: I am in a nightclub. I have started and stopped many times. I am frustrated and there are people standing at the bar giving me the side eye. The DJ before me was so good and I really don’t want to bring down the energy. I sigh inside myself and say to myself, “I am frustrated.” And in this simple way, I allow myself to be with Frustration as she writhes and contorts within me. I say a prayer to the gods of music and to the primordial Grand Mother beating her drum within the sounds of time. 

And then I lock the fuck in.

I think I captured his comments re making my 3's and 4's more solidly so, but I also  was kind of thrown off by Tasha's 12 year anniversary set. I decided to try and match the energetic frequency of that but just in my signature rather than overanalyzing the score which tends to make me stop and start. Excited to hear your thoughts.
