'All The Way' came to life back in 2019 after an impulse purchase of a Roland 303 clone. What started as an ambient B-side evolved into an organic, soulful expression, radiating hope for the future.

Premiere: Squidgenini 'All The Way'

The road was long and winding, they watched as it disappeared into the distance as it met the horizon. There was no turning back now, they could only drive forwards into the dust.

The desert was scarce and a dense, cloudy orange. Nothing lived out here for it was wild and rugged, hot and bothersome.

Occasionally the breeze would blow softly, it was a modest relief against the abrasive heat which burnt the skin and ignited the senses in the worst of ways.

They would have to go all the way – they knew this now. It was only time which would tell if they might make the end of the road.

Squidgenini releases a new EP on Beats of No Nation featuring a number of reworks and versions. Each take is unique and makes this a well rounded record which will do wonders in a variety of sets. We expect this one to be guarded closely and played lots.

There's just something about acid... perhaps it's the microtones. Frequencies that lay buried in traditional Western scales are pulled from their slumber and tossed to the sky. 

The "All The Way" EP came to life back in 2019 after an impulse purchase of a Roland 303 clone. What started as an ambient B-side evolved into an organic, soulful expression, radiating hope for the future. To round off this release, fellow Meeanjin/Brisbane creatives David Versace and Charlie Hill contributed two remixes along with Squid's ‘Dreamspace Mix', bringing the EP to a grand total of five unique tracks, each tracing back to the same origin.

"It all started as we took our 1 year old son for a little family outing to our local, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. As we sat down to watch the afternoon ‘Aboriginal Culture Show’, I decided to field record the performance. Straight away I was blown away by Luthers’ rich and soulful voice. Luther is a proud Yugambeh man, who strives to bond all Australians through song, dance and art. “The Aboriginal culture – the histories, the stories – they belong to this land and so if you are Australian, they belong to you too”, he says.

A few weeks later ‘Jingeri’ (meaning “welcome”) was made through the alchemy of Luthers’ samples and my hardware. I then approached Luther to show him ‘Jingeri’ and to see if he would be interested in collaborating. I was delighted when I could see his enthusiasm for the project and we locked in a studio session. From what was a short, but super productive 2hr session, birthed ‘Nunya’, the second track on the EP. The traditional Yugambeh lyrics “Nunya mulla, nunya bayami” mean “Thanks creator, thanks to those around me”.

The EP titled ‘Jingeri’ was done, all that was left was the artwork and who better to visually represent this body of work than Luther himself. He designed this traditional artwork, which he calls ‘3 Brothers’. In Luthers’ words, “3 Brothers represents me, my 2 brothers, our families and our continuing connection to country and culture”.

I have been a massive fan of the Beats of No Nation family for a long time and when I heard they wanted to release this EP I was delighted. I want to thank Luther for all of his time and contributions to these tracks. I am so happy to have made a new friend and collaborator and am super inspired for what the future holds musically."
