I've always been a fan of the track Spanish Joint  but I felt like the original is fairly mellow and couldn't find a way to fit it into my DJ sets. So i remixed this acoustic Spanish Joint with a more vibey dance feel so I can play out. Added new synths, keys, drums, bass, and sound efx.

If you've caught Blackalicious on tour over the last fifteen years or so, you will have witnessed first hand the prodigious talent of Portland based rapper and singer Vursatyl. As well as playing a major role in the Blackalicious stage show, Vursatyl is set to feature on their eagerly awaited fourth album 'Imani' (released summer 2015). Standing toe to toe with Gift Of Gab, surely one of the most ferociously gifted MCs on the planet is no mean feat, but one which Vursatyl performs with ease.

Blackalicious producer and owner of Quannum Projects Chief Xcel discovered Vursatyl's crew 'Livesavas' back in the late 90's and invited them to join him on the road to promote the Quannum Spectrum album (which featured Jurassic 5, El-P and Souls of Mischief among many others). Lifesavas went on to record two critically acclaimed albums for the label, and were named by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of their 'Top Ten Artists To Watch'.

Now 24 years into his rap career, Crooked Straights marks a new chapter in Vurstatyl's story; unbelievably this is the first time he's taken centre stage to release a solo record. Full of warm, soulful, Dilla-esque hip hop beats created largely by local Portland producers, Vursatyl provides a master-class in the art of lyricism with a record which surely cements his reputation as one of the most respected artists in the hip hop community. Conscious lyrics delivered with a sense of fun and a touch of swagger makes this a ‘must check’ record for fans of golden era Hip Hop.

Emapea, the renowned beat-maker from Poland, burst upon the scene with multiple compilation appearances on Cold Busted, an inclusion on Mark Farina’s Mushroom Jazz 8, and his stunning debut album Seeds, Roots & Fruits. Fans and headz worldwide have been clamoring for a follow-up, but all Emapea wanted to do was just ‘zone out.’ And that’s what happened, with the release of Emapea’s twenty song album Zoning Out, Volume 1.

Emapea’s cuts are meant for the listener to get lost in – but they’re not only for chilling, or when deep in thought, but also for getting in that crucial head-nod zone, like when the DJ drops the dopest beat. Expertly crafted and sequenced, the album presents a boom-bap journey that’s dreamy and spacey while remaining tough and jazzy. “Check It Out” exemplifies the mood with its smooth drums, chiming keys, subtle sax riffs, and hip hop shout-outs. The vibe expands on “Motion”, adding an exotic, worldly flavor to the seductively loping rhythm. And “Classy” features a smokey saloon piano melody that cruises smugly out of jeep-beat speakers. This track was recently featured on a limited postcard record, mailed surreptitiously to lucky Emapea supporters.

Zoning Out, Volume 1 defines Emapea as an artist to watch on the international beat scene. Pay attention as Volume 2 will be continuing the journey in later months.
