Discobelle Mix 012: Compuphonic

The Sun just came out as I started my set on the Friday of Eastern Electrics festival 2013.  I played in the outdoor Switchyard for El Row.  It was a great chance to play some techno as I also love playing a little tougher and more electronic sometimes.  I was actually a resident for El Row back when they started out in the 90s.  If you don't know them you should check them out.  They are the crazy party crew from Barcelona who throw parties on Sundays.  They use performance artists, stilt walkers, acrobats and a whole heap of inflatables to make techno music fun and a party.  The rest of Eastern Electrics was also really impressive, respect due !

This is my favourite DJ mix I've done in a while. I had just got back from holiday the day before Beacons and so was fully re-charged . I felt like playing really full musical productions with sunshine vibes at their heart. 

Of course Beacons was also a big part behind the mix. The line up was just crazy, with so many top artists there to inspire and get you playing at the top of your game.  The great Yorkshire weather held off and the people were truly lovely. I took controls of a packed Social tent after Tristan Da Cunha and the Freakin' boys had already got it rocking at midnight.

It was over two years since my last visit to Watergate in Berlin, which is a long time to be away from such an inspirational club for me.  I love feeding off the energy that is all around you in Berlin. Unlike so many of my contemporaries I have never lived there so I have never grown jaded or complacent about the city.  It truly is a special place and I always come away inspired, especially if I have ended up at Panorama Bar on Sunday (which I did this time - thanks Dixon).

I was picked up at the airport by an artist from Montenegro, who showed me his art while we drove into town.  He then got lost for an hour trying to find the hotel - Only in Berlin.

This time was my first ever session on the Waterfloor and the Channel Zoo guys were kind enough to give me the sunrise set from 0400 - 0600. The sun was coming up in the last half hour and the moment deserved Blaze - Lovelee Dae as the it finally broke over the buildings and glistened on the ripples of the River Spree.  

Many thanks to Graeme and Louie from Channel Zoo and Uli, Henrik, Frank and Ron from Watergate for allowing and recording the mix.

I always see a gig on the legendary Terrace of Space for We Love like playing in the World Cup.  You have been picked to represent on the international stage in the big arena and it's time to show the world what you got.

I always get nervous leading up to the gig and practice most of the week. Some people are surprised when I tell them that but ask any musician and they will always tell you they need to work on their chops at any stage in their career. I treat it the same way.

I'm playing just one exclusive terrace set this year on the Space Terrace so I wanted to make sure I nailed it.  I am back on September 22nd in the Discoteca for an excursion into Techno but this set will be the only one of its kind this year.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I did...
