Just over a year ago, my best friend John Michael Night at 17 years old had a very rare brain stem stroke. He currently suffers from Locked-In Syndrome--a phenomenon where the patient loses ALL ability for voluntary movement, can not speak, yet is completely conscious. Essentially you are 'trapped' in your own body. Not one day has gone by since that fucking nightmare of a day where i don't think of him and the implications of what had happened. My song "Fall Asleep" is dedicated to John Michael. We want to get the word out about his story as much as we can. All dollars made from the song will be donated to his 501(c)(3) fund. Excited to announce The Outlaw Ocean Music Project, which is an innovative collaboration that melds music with journalism. I’ve enjoyed being a part of this project with @ian_urbina.

My upcoming release “No Oceans Unturned” inspired by his book “The Outlaw Ocean” is out now everywhere: theoutlawoceanmusic.com 

I want my music to convey a more serious tone to reflect the consequences of lawlessness at sea. I want my music to complement the book's darker, melancholy moods. Interestingly, however, the chapter that resonated with me the most was “The Rusty Kingdom.” This chapter’s central topic of one family declaring its own country in the sea, Sealand, was in itself silly and playful, which I appreciate. The chapter highlights the absurdity of the issue while revealing the various social and economic consequences that arise when no legal authority exists to police these sorts of stories.  
 
Because this book opened my eyes to the “anything goes” mindset of The Outlaw Ocean, I want each of my tracks in the EP to mirror the desire for more awareness and enforcement in international waters.
