Fantastic Twins has been orbiting our radar for a while now. Not all that surprising considering the double-headed alias has been a staple of quality releases on Hippie Dance and Optimo Music. Time to connect, indulge and admire, as we welcome her into our Straight Forward series and she gives us a little taste of what Fantastic Twins is all about with a hour long, carefully crafted mix, next to an interview touching base on her friendship with Hippie Dance, Optimo Music and future plans. Iro Aka are Carles Rocamora & David Iriarte who met back in years in Barcelona. They were joined through a love of DJing and a passion for all forms of music. 
When we talk about Barcelona, we talk about tapas, architecture, flamenco and electronic music. In recent years, Barcelona has become one of the leading cities in the electronic music industry taking a huge number of festivals and gigs from the best DJs and musicians of the planet. Iro Aka is clear product of fusion of cultures in this wonderful city. The guys are producing (soon they will release their first EP "Futur" alongside such cool men as are TAPAN and Anatolian Weapons, in my label Elephant Gait Music and which is already supported by Vladimir Ivkovic, Lena Willikens, Alexis Le Tan, Odopt, MR TC and some more finest figures of the scene) they are playing (paid attention people like Javi Redondo, Luis Costa and Playground Records djs in the name of few) and they are collecting music (this mix is clear evidence of this).
I was waiting for so long for this moment and now im very much happy to give a warm welcome to this very talented duo in the 44,100Hz Social Club.

With Velvet Desert Music Vol. 2, curator Jörg Burger has intensified his vision for this new series of compilations on Kompakt. The music he’s collected here has a unique vibration, perhaps an audio equivalent to the legendary ‘acid Western’ films of the 1960s and 1970s, when the wild frontier logic of the western met the consciousness-altering psychedelia of the counterculture.

‘Velvet Desert Music’ is Burger exploring possibilities: what happens when you extract the essence from genres as diverse as spaghetti Western soundtracks, moody lamp-lit pop, downtempo, Krautrock, minimalism, classic ‘60s psychedelia, and more, and let their scents intermingle, Des Esseintes-style?

On Velvet Desert Music Vol. 2, Burger welcomes back old friends - Fantastic Twins, Sascha Funke, Paulor, Rebolledo, Superpitcher, The Novotones – and also introduces some exciting new names, such as Golden Bug and The Limiñanas, Mount Obsidian (aka César Urbina / Cubenx), and Lake Turner. Marcus Schmickler’s Pluramon project appears, remixed by Burger, and Michael Mayer makes his first appearance with “Not So Far Away”.

The ultimate strength of Velvet Desert Music Vol. 2, though, is its seamlessness; you’re encouraged to press play, sit back, and listen to the album unfurl as a whole. Much like one of Kompakt’s other compilation series, the legendary yearly Pop Ambient collections edited by Wolfgang Voigt, Velvet Desert Music builds its own psychological environment to inhabit. And as you dig deeper into Velvet Desert Music Vol. 2, the music takes on synaesthetic turns, the textures all swirl together, igniting the senses.

Each of the artists share with Burger himself a production style that echoes the cinèma pour l’oreille (cinema for the ear), with luscious sweeps of tone and melody opening out to reveal new vistas, new terrain for the attentive listener. When listening to Velvet Desert Music, think widescreen, think broad brushstrokes, think boldness but with sensual detail. It’s the new frontier music.

Golden Bug and The Limiñanas – Variation Sur 3 Bancs

We are really happy to present this intriguing mix of souls, two artists of great respect like Noah Pred and Pablo Bolivar, together exceptionally for this special issue in Apparel Music. The Deep gets a classic suit, timeless, using elongated chords to create a spacious environment for the percussion to build atmospherically, the live drums that settle into a kind of “lawn-sound”, with shuddering keyboard stabs and tinkling Rhodes for good measure. Noah Pred & Pablo Bolivar - Questing (Original Mix)

Going by his surname as moniker, Beazar steps out of the shadow for the first time in years with new and original work. The past 7 years have been in diligent service as producer and band member for the band stavroz that graced stages worldwide, culminating in shows at coachella, strawberry fields, etc. 

He abandoned the strict four - to - the - floor backbone of his music in pursuit of more freedom to express his dry and stern grooves, laden with bittersweet tension. A style he has kept throughout his latest musical work “Furry Tale” (Moodfamily)
