система | system presents Ukrainian Field Notes’s second fundraiser for Musicians Defend Ukraine. Volume II comprises 35 tracks submitted by some of the 100+ artists interviewed during the second year of the Russian full-scale invasion for the experimental music website A Closer Listen and Resonance FM.

UFN Volume II collects in an ebook (available both in PDF and ePub formats) all 106 interviews with Ukrainian artists realised for A Closer Listen and Resonance FM during the second year of the Russian full-scale invasion (February 24, 2023, to February 24, 2024), chronicling the emotional and creative aftershocks of events on the grounds.

UFN Volume II recounts the stories behind the music, stories of survival, defiance, and resilience from artists developing their practice, or even starting off, in times of war. From the destruction of the Kakhovka Dam to the killing of the novelist and war crimes researcher Victoria Amelina, the unfolding events act as a silent sonic backdrop to a multifaceted album delivering the perfect blend of electronic music in all its shades from the four corners of Ukraine and beyond.

Ukrainian Field Notes Volume II emphasizes the positive power of music, even when, as Bruce Johnson and Martin Cloonan underline in Dark Side of the Tune: Popular Music and Violence, “War perennially provides the most extreme manifestations of the connections between music, identity, and violence.”
