At this time of year we're all looking for those tracks to set alight the parties, festivals and beaches of the summer season. Last year Souleance's 'Jogar' EP filled that gap, this time around they have delivered once again with the addictive, brassy bounce of 'Secoue'. Taking their influence from the Haitian style of meringue known as Compa, Fulgeance and Soulist have crafted an instant dancefloor bomb. 'Secoue' translates to 'Shake' which is about as appropriate a title as you're going to get.

* Morro do Pau da Bandeira is a favela, or shantytown, in Rio de Janeiro, that started to be populated in the 1950’s.
** More than one million people, or 20% of Rio’s population, lives in favelas. Their population is increasing at a rate of 2.5% per year, compared with growth of less than 0.5% for the rest of Rio. 
*** Mangueira is another famous favela in Rio
**** there are many different kinds of samba styles, of which samba de raiz ou Madeira is considered by many to be the purest from of Brazilian music, and also the least commercial.
***** Vila Isabel is the Rio district in which the Morro do Pau da Bandeira is found****** Novelas are the famous Brazilian epic soap operas that are now commonly translated and shown all over the world… the reference here seems to be to how TV in general, and no doubt the news, spins tales that have little connection to the life on the favela.

At this moment, Global Bass music is an intimate circuit in the electronic music landscape. Airplane tickets and the internet serve to connect producers and artists in every imaginable combination. Spanning across Africa, Europe, India, the Caribbean, and the Americas, allowing for the birth of new forms of collaboration. At the nexus of the Tropical music monsoon is producer Thor Partridge, aka Thornato.

Born in Sweden, Thor grew up in a household filled with traditional Greek, African, and Carribbean music. Moving in early childhood to Queens, New York, the borough’s diversity further influenced his style and taste. Thor added to his rich musical palette by studying classical piano, jazz guitar, and bluegrass banjo. A passion for electronic music production, remixing, and music of the entire globe soon developed.

Thor’s debut EP “Things Will Change” is an amalgamation of his global influence, coupled with strong roots in dance music culture. His music is not a product of samples downloaded from the internet, but from his driving wanderlust and ability to hand select musicians to work with on location in the countries where they are from. By recording in the field with a mobile studio, Thor captures the real essence and soul of the music and where it's coming from. The EP kicks off with “Chapinero”, a bass heavy joint with an infectious Colombian Gaita melody. Handclaps and chopped vocal samples make for a booming floor rocker. “Deux a Duex” turns towards the African dancefloor incorporating infectious guitars and beautiful vocal harmonies courtesy of Kongo Electro from Cape Town. “Koz Kazah” heads to the Middle East with it’s violin melodies, thick sub-bass, and Arabic vocals courtesy of Karen Be. Finally, “Tera Dewana” lands us in the Indian subcontinent with it’s driving beat, tablas, and Hindi vocals from Vasanth S & AKS.

Thornato's "Things Will Change" EP shows that while indeed the music does change, the soul and the heart of sounds from all over the world remain consistent, and that dancefloor music is universal - no matter where in the world you are!

Tim Maia, THE Brazilian Funk Soul Godfather was the real thing. His 1970 debut album introduced his audacious talent, as well as North American soul and funk musical influences, forever changing Brazilian popular music. His legendary appetites sought out carnal AND spiritual fulfillment in equal measure.  He bought 100 hits of LSD and handed them out to the staff of his record label. At the height of his mid-70s success he joined the Cult of Racional Energy; watching for spaceships while wearing only white clothes and playing only white instruments! Yet the two albums he recorded for the Cult are among his best. His songs search for love, and they dig into the existential. His own lyrics say it best: “I am so groovy now and I don’t care!”

Em 1999 a banda Charlie Brown Jr lançou a música "Zoio de Lula" que foi um dos maiores sucessos do grupo de Santos. Na época eu fiz uma remix que foi muito tocado em algumas casas noturnas e festas itinerantes aqui em Lavras e também nas rádios da cidade.

Verificando os arquivos no iTunes achei esta versão que hoje estou disponibilizando novamente para quem quiser ouvir.

Espero que gostem deste trabalho, onde apenas fiz uma versão extendida.
