Live Performance of "Warming up Memory" for solo violin and tape. Tape is split into three sections (A, B and C) which were played sequentially through a Max MSP patch. The piece depicts a violinist who hasn't played for years and is rediscovering their instrument, hence the title: "Warming up Memory".

Conflicting Priorities is the first of my third year electroacoustic composition assignments. It consists of three movements:

1. Work, Don't Eat
2. Eat, Must Work
3. Compromise

Programme Notes:

Using recorded sounds of food and kitchenware, Conflicting Priorities is a criticism of the industrialized world where work takes priority and the idea of a sit down meal has been lost. The first miniature, Work, Don't Eat, sets the scene. The subject is hard at work, with the bells as a constant reminder to keep working; there's no time to stop and eat! The situation builds frustration and anger until it is no longer possible to continue living like this. In the second, Eat, Must Work, the subject finally gets chance to eat but feels there's too much to do to enjoy it and the whole experience is an uncomfortable one. Finally, the third miniature is a proposed compromise of how working and eating a proper meal can coexist in an aim to make the world a happier place.

Conflicting Priorities

This is the final composition of my Music undergraduate degree.
I used only recordings of one person's voice (credit to Mathilda Du Tillieul McNicol)and manipulated it in Pro Tools to create this piece inspired by the devastating effects of dementia. Over its duration, the piece is supposed to show the deterioration of a patient as they lose sense of who and where they are and withdraw into themselves.

The Vanishing Soul

I've recently been doing the whole soundtrack for a short film from the dialogue editing to composing the music. Public Discourse, directed by Oisin Byrne, follows a conversation between two students who have opposing views of the world. This is the main theme which I composed, played and recorded to cover the ending and the credits.

Recorded in 2012, this was the first piece I composed for full orchestra and I was lucky to have it performed by my youth orchestra at the time. It's a set of theme and variations based on the plainchant at the start and end, sung by my sister. Each variation explores the evolution of classical music, pastiching various composers along the way.
