Ladada is Virginia Beach native Josiah Schlater. After years of recording and touring in other bands (MAE, We Are Trees, Jake Clemons), Schlater has now settled into a lively, sun-drenched sound of his own. Taking inspiraton from early Motown and 60's garage rock, he squeezed a drum kit, a couple guitars, a 4-track, and a netbook into a small storage unit and began recording what became Ladada.

The lo-fi dust from their sell-out debut 'Honey Milk and Blood' EP – critically-acclaimed by NME, DIY, Brooklyn Vegan and bloggers worldwide – has been truly blown away with big guitars, big drums, and even bigger choruses as Shunkan transformed itself from the bedroom project of 21-year-old LA-born (but NZ based) Marina Sakimoto to an unmistakably natural full band affair.

With the sessions recorded in Lyttleton, Christchurch NZ, Sakimoto says of the record “the inspiration was honesty and clarity, and the struggle of keeping your demons at bay. The lyrics are vulnerable and straight forward with hints of abstract imagery and setting.”
