A stellar career within the electronic music industry has seen Jamie Stevens rise to the very top of his profession. Making his full Meanwhile EP debut, the 3-track “Circles” continues his illustrious story.

A double ARIA winning artist with iconic live act, Infusion, Jamie Stevens’ solo career is no less impressive. A veteran of the global DJ circuit with performances at Womb (Tokyo), Fabric (London) and across his native Australia and Melbourne hometown, Stevens has continued to see productions feature regularly in the upper echelons of the progressive house chart.

With almost 400 production credits to his name, Dave Seaman’s Selador, John Digweed’s Bedrock and Guy J’s Lost & Found have all played host to the unique Jamie Stevens sound on multiple occasions as he continues to go from strength to strength. A meticulous approach to his production work and unrivalled attention to detail is coupled with a wider ability to see the bigger musical picture and his music infused with warm tonality and rich rhythmic patterns.

Returning to Meanwhile after a remix of Roger Martinez’s “Cosmic Drum” in late 2020, the “Circles” title track is characterised by a pounding club-friendly beat, while shades of Giorgio Moroder shimmer through the percussive groove and syncopated melodic elements. Building in hypnotic patterns, vocal shouts and a liberal sprinkling of reverse reverb effects and white-noise washes, join forces in a glorious harmony to create a typically impressive body-shaking floor-filler.

The aptly titled “Storm Front” quickly emerges with a subtle tension imbued within it. Continuing on the same mesmerising footing as its predecessor, an immaculately crafted groove, redolent in sub-bass and off-beat percussive roll, powers through the 8-minute timeframe. Subtly synthesised and reverb drenched vocal cuts shimmer across the upper-range throughout, making their presence fully felt at the breakdown before the driving elemental force of the central groove drops back into place through the seething third movement.

The final musical image of the sonic triptych has a softer musical vibe brought about by a swathe of complementary harmonic phrases. A beautiful central motif marries elegantly with a smooth vocoded vocal that gently sings the “Stuck on a Feeling” title. Rising and falling with ease Stevens evokes a warm summer evening vibe with his beautiful arrangement. Where the opening pair of tracks hypnotized through powerful rhythmic structures, the final track oozes spellbinding warmth with its glittering array of analogue synth phrasing.

Three “Circles” find Jamie Stevens drawing a vivid sonic picture that elegantly shows the logical relation between rhythm, melody and energy in a precise musical Venn diagram.

An artist with a double century of production credits to his name, Gaston Ponte returns to Particles with his "Dark Side" EP. Responsible for an impressive body of work on the likes of Balkan Connection, Massive Harmony Records and Clinique Recordings, the Argentinean debuted on Particles in mid-2022 with his "Accelerated" EP. The title track is an immaculately crafted affair with dominant kick and percussive effects that jump out of the mix. A deft bassline sequence that pans the stereo spectrum and atmospheric pads create a subtle unease as "Dark Side" develops with a glorious melodic progression. Full of dancefloor energy, it evolves at the breakdown and into the second half with easy skill and poise. Full of dark intent, "Dexter" continues the melodic narrative of its partner track as immaculately cadenced motifs sit perfectly against a chunky rhythmic backdrop. Full of intelligently placed spot effects and club-friendly breakdown riser, the track erupts into the second half with huge growling bassline and beautifully sculpted arpeggio. Driving the track to its powerful conclusion, Gaston Ponte's skill and craftsmanship is in full evidence.

A name familiar to the Proton Music fanbase, Petar Dundov has carved out a reputation for distinctive and innovative production work from banks of analogue equipment operated out of his Zagreb studio. A veteran of Bedrock, DAYS like NIGHTS and microCastle, the Croatian's work for Proton Music and Particles has resulted in a raft of original tracks and remixes that include the "Salvation" and "Spark" EPs plus reworkings for Chihaka, Simos Tagias and Desaturate. The Petar Dundove remix of "Dark Side" is thus a dramatic and original interpretation with a trademark metronomic energy driven by relentless beat and woodblock infused percussive pattern. Intelligently using the main themes of the original, trademark arpeggiated patterns emerge before a uniquely cadenced new motif appears at the breakdown. Building once more into the second half, all elements combine to create a distinctive and highly impressive offering.

A relatively new artist to enter the underground dance arena, Hobin Rude has already found himself at the forefront of the progressive house scene with his work AH Digital, Future Avenue and Nick Warren's The Soundgarden, since a June 2020 debut for I AM DIFFERENT. Now making his Particles debut, the Serbian artist has created a powerful rhythmic backdrop for his remix of "Dexter" that bristles with dark energy. A pulsating bassline adds to the sonic collage as the arpeggio central to the original, filters into range amidst fizzing white-noise swells and a panoply of effects that come to the fore at the mid-point. Building to a deep crescendo, the dense rhythmic foundation then enters the fray once more as the track seamlessly glides towards its conclusion.

Showcasing talent and technique in equal measure, Gaston Ponte reveals his "Dark Side" with help from Petar Dundov and Hobin Rude.
