Beer Sucks - Ep 13 - Mazen Hajjar Of Hawkers Beer

The origin of Holgate Brewhouse dates back to 1999 after Paul and his wife had been on holiday in the U.S. and felt inspired to join the industry due to the small and independent nature of craft breweries that were in business for the love of their product. This sentiment resinated with Paul who had a love of baking, making jams and ginger beer and was intrigued by the nature of first principles production, before the advent of modern production technology. 

Their brewery took shape in their back yard, in Woodend, where they started selling beer while working and raising a family. Thankfully the couple invested heavily in tourism and hospitality when they took over a historic hotel and transformed it into Holgate’s!

We got the chance to sit down with Paul and discuss government grants, independence and which is the best drunk food. I’ll give you a hint, it’s definitely not chicken dim sims.

Good Beer Week has grown from an idea to a festival made up of more than 300 innovative events that attracts seventy five thousand attendees. 

Run by a not-for-profit association it is Australia's premiere beer event that attracts global visitors and vendors alike. 

It is the biggest single platform for local brewers and beer businesses to showcase themselves to a broad audience and also plays host to the Australian International Beer Awards (AIBA) and the three-day GABS Beer, Cider, Food & Festival at the Royal Exhibition Building.

Beer Sucks - Ep 15 - Good Beer Week 2018 Extravaganza

In this episode we catch up with one of our favourite human beings on the planet. Brendan O'Sullivan from 3 Ravens Brewery. We were an hour late to our meeting with Brendan and he still welcomed us in with more respect than we would deserve in normal circumstances.

One of the pioneers of the Australian craft beer revolution, 3 Ravens has been knocking out quality craft beer since 2003. Lately they have been killing it with their sour series and dominating the juice wars. Now with a new CAW range to tie everything together, they have a solution for every situation. Kind of like Brendan. 

Let's just hope that he wasn't serious about a king of fizzy beer.
