hiya folk thanks for the feedback... To answer your questions... On the Tip Top drums I had a bit of human swing on the Pam Pro and probability at about 80 percent on the snares... The individual tracks was recorded to 8 channels of analogue input on my RME audio interface. The Tip Top 808 kick and MFB bass were combined via vintage Mackie 24•4-VLZ PRO desk via a Joe Meek compressor before recorded... The reverb was from a circuit bent pedal chain and 8 bit homemade delay...

Press Release: By the Oxbow lakes following the old course, making binaural field recordings. Eventually I reached the river Aire by calculating the sizes of several ancient audio pyramids, with trigonometric functions. Nearby Tom Pudding boats are jostling with the night coal, surrounded by phosphorescence noise wash. The sides of the pyramids are along the four cardinal points of synthesisers, measured with the stars and the rising and setting sun.

Bioni Samp performed a hybrid binaural DJ Set @Raindance VRX London.

I talked briefly about sound design & performed live with 360 binaural audio design used in The Resistance of Honey & Aftershock. 

Sounds were position in a rectangle room using two pairs of stereo speakers. I played my own released music, bee field recordings with a mixture of vintage vinyl recordings of Aboriginal, Haitian and Native American music. Here is an extract of the two channel live recording. The recording sounds a busy mix because playback in the room, was on 4 speakers (using twin audio spatializers) and has now been mixed down to a stereo mp3 for soundcloud. In the room it sounded more spacious and minimal  :-)

Bioni Samp makes his solo debut proper with a finely structured, dark and elemental Ambient Techno EP. Hailing from Leeds, he's already appeared on the London-based Aconito label alongside Nax_Acid with the 'Ghost Bus' EP, but this is his definitive solo statement. Stark ambient pieces bookend four minimal Techno rollers. 'Feather Ings' uses field recordings and plunging subaquatic basses reminiscent of Thomas Köner, and the title track sketches bleak atmospheres around a skeletal hi-hat pattern reminding of DJ Skirt at her most isolated. The Techno tracks are equally carefully constructed, from the rippling, offset roll of 'Todays Skyline' to the SAW-like pulses of 'Oil On Canvas' and the ghostly warehouse space of 'Slinky Makes Reverb'. Book Of Shame - Hope and Glory (BnT Remix)

Remix by Bioni Samp and Tom Webster (SpiritTone Recordings) of… Book Of Shame's - Hope and Glory track. From the bands forthcoming self titled album, released 30th August 2019.

Bioni commented on the remix and how it came about... 'We had done a gig with Book Of Shame (BOS) at the George Tavern, in the east end of London, where myself and Tom had played our home-made synths to add a more electronic feel to BOS’s 'Indie Rock' sound. We were asked to play on a few tracks but ended up playing in a 'massive live jam' with the band, which went on until 3am. We even had the pub owner on drums and had people dancing for hours. People seemed to enjoy it and were asking... 'have you guys just come back from Glasto' he he’.

'Anyway Book Of Shame asked us to remix one of their tracks for their forthcoming album and recently we finished our remix of 'Hope and Glory' off over a weekend, in our shared North London studio. We wanted to create our version of a current London bass and percs style, but with extra breaks. Being big fans of early UK Jungle before it became Drum and Bass, we wanted to keep that bass heavy sound and minimal instrumentation, but with loads of FX to create space and atmosphere. We kept key parts of the track using the chorus vocals and stripped all the guitars back and added loads of reverb and delays. The deep bass-line and cowbell sounds are from a loaned 808 drum machine. These were sampled at 8 bit onto my Pocket Operator for extra rumble and crunch. Once pitched and trimmed they were played live onto the track in Ableton for extra MPC style swing. The track was also balanced and mastered in Ableton using the Nomad Factory Analog Studio mastering plug-ins'.

Book Of Shame commented on the remix… I first saw bioni playing at The George Tavern. There was a guy sitting cross-legged on the stage in a bee keepers outfit playing home made synths from in a plastic sandwich boxes. I was blown away by what he was doing, synthesising bee sounds taken from his bee hive. I proposed it to bbc research and development for a 360 vr video. We made the film which was shown around the world at conferences as a demonstration of what could be done in VR. Bioni was even nominated for best VR sound design at Raindance Film Festival. I invited him to come jam with us at the now legendary George Tavern along with his friend Tom who is also part of the remix team. We played this impromptu BOS gig for around 6 hrs and Gary (BOS lead guitarist) never left the stage. Bioni had helped out on a previous song called ‘Inertia’. Speeding it up and adding beats. What he did was great so we asked him and Tom to do a ‘Hope and Glory’ remix. As usual they came up with something unique, an interesting contrast to the original. https://bookofshame.bandcamp.com/

Bioni Samp - Hive Synthesis - Bee Frequency Meditation Session

The idea is to creates an audio journey which explores
the sounds and frequencies inside the honey bee’s home the beehive.

In each honey bee colony there are three types of bee. The drone,
worker and queen bees, each of these have their own individual
frequencies in the ranges of; low - 200 Hz or less, mid - 200-400 Hz
and high - 400+ Hz, just like the earth has its own special frequency
of approximately 9 Hz.

As a electronic music producer and seasonal beekeeper. I was inspired
to learn more about bee frequencies and make a creative work that
incorporated these bee frequencies in the hope of raising awareness
about bees and their increasingly fragile ecology system. There are
many interesting facts about bee frequencies. For example... the same
high frequencies the Queen creates, are also used in Genetic Engineering
to splice DNA together.

Hive Synthesis aims to create a immersive sound environment from the
listening perspective of each of the three types of bee.
I.e. What the Queen would hear inside the hive, what the worker would
hear inside the hive and what the drone would hear inside the hive.

Biog – Short Version
Bioni Samp is an artist, producer and video maker originally from Leeds, Yorkshire. He currently resides in London. He creates experimental electronic music, live and on recordings. He also seasonally works with bees. When not beekeeping, he makes custom audio software and hardware, which he uses in creating his music.

Bioni Samp has been publishing his work since 1995 and has had releases on various labels: Aconito, EMIT (UK) Harthouse (DE) Philtre/Kompakt, Instinct, Minimalizm (USA) RoHS Prod (FR) and Noise Music (BR).

Growing up in Yorkshire to a backdrop of industrial decay next to rural beauty, inspired me to create my own electronic landscapes using cassette, tape loops, bass guitar and a Roland SH-101 synthesiser.

I was influenced and inspired by other Yorkshire locals, Cabaret Voltaire, early Human League, their harsh electronic sound and slide based multimedia live shows.

After studying video and sound in Scotland, it was in Glasgow that I really started to developed my own work and built an early ProTools based electronic studio. Many djing, live electronics gigs and then releases followed.

Over the years I have continued to research and experiment with stereo / binaural, producing recordings and performing live with extreme stereo processing, using mainly my own home made equipment. Recently I have been invited to perform my live electronics in Canada, Sweden, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland, Austria, Liverpool, and London.

I have recently performed with my 'Hive Synthesiser' at reRooted Festival at Humber Street Gallery, part of Hull UK City Of Culture 2017. Where I also played a DJ set on the last night of the festival.

I like to create something new for each live performance, my sound constantly evolving between ‘ambient / experimental / field recordings / noise / techno‘.
