As of the 20th of March it's officially spring! Can almost taste the vitamin d seeping into your ghostly pale skin... then again this is the UK so let's not go getting carried away.

Fortunately we have been scouring the the depths for more sonic beauties to warm your bones and get your lugholes smiling, and quite the selection it is too!

Everything from new fire from the ever dependable Kaytranada with a couple of edits and the genius 'Bus Ride' through to Âme's Frank Wiedemann dropping his first solo ep on Innervisions. 
We also have some deep, beautiful techno from Recondite, a bit of house mastery from the likes of Al Dobson Jr, Roman Flügel (remixed by none other than DJ Koze) and the ever dependable Powel to name a few. Plus a whole bunch more choice cuts from all over the musical spectrum.

And amidst all the new,  in the month where we bid farewell to yet another musical hero, we pay homage to the "5 Foot Assassin" with a few tracks from A Tribe Called Quest... Phife delivered some of the most memorable lines ever put on wax and possessed a flow that sounds as fresh today as it ever did. He was an integral part of one of the most important groups in musical history, let alone hip hop. So after this mix go dust off Low End Theory, Midnight Marauders or People's Instinctive and bask in their glory!

Two of the most popular songs from Opolopo's highly acclaimed "Superconductor" album get brand new treatments from Rhemi and Nachtbraker.

Amsterdam based House head Nachtbraker has released music on Detroit Swindle's Heist Recordings, Apparel Music and Dirt Crew Recordings. He goes straight to floor with his remix of "Feels Good 2 Me" launching in with crunchy messed up beats, warm pads and dubbed out vocals for an epic remix that combines old and new styles.

The latest chapter in the longstanding relationship between Gilles Peterson and the music of Cuba, it sees him explore the roots of rumba through a project comprising a feature-length documentary and a collection of remixes to be released in 2016.

Produced in collaboration with Cuban rum maker Havana Club – that created the Havana Cultura platform to promote contemporary Cuban culture –, it's another episode in a six-year relationship that's already given vital exposure to different aspects of Cuba's thriving music culture through the Havana Cultura album series.

*The acclaimed Havana Cultura album series – fruit of a collaboration between Gilles Peterson, Brownswood Recordings and Havana Club – includes two major collective productions, Havana Cultura: The New Cuba Sound (2009) and Havana Cultura: The Search Continues (2011); the Havana Cultura Sessions EPs featuring Danay Suárez (2010) and Daymé Arocena (2015); and two electronic music albums, Havana Cultura Remixed (2010) and Havana Cultura Mix: The Soundclash! According to Iglooghost, Little Grids consists of 3 short vignettes that function as glimpses into the antics of several unrelated beings. Firstly, Xiangiao, a gelatinous worm, currently being launched through a tiresome void of peanut rain. We then observe Lummo, an old witch who never learned to die, attempting to teach a gang of half-witted witch children a song that will revive an ancient superpower. Finally, Usohachi, a teenage bug bandit who wears a cool black coat, sipping golden tea whilst nimbly freerunning along the pink cliffsides.

In an age of innumerable bedroom producers and DIY beatmakers, encountering one with a distinctive flavour to their music is becoming near impossible. This is refreshingly not the case, however, for Deft (aka Yip Wong). Having already manned several flagship labels of dance music such as WotNot, Brownswood, Hypercolour and Project Mooncircle (who billed Deft for their 2013 BR session), Deft draws musical, technical and stylistic influence from anything and everything in his musical creations. Initially a drummer, he now produces music which audibly tips its hat to hip hop, footwork, house, jungle and beyond. Check his 2014 "Emeralds" track for what we believe to be the ultimate embodiment of all of Deft's different musical pedigrees.

His latest venture on 20/20 LDN Recordings, the Blackest EP, takes a step back from the forward-propelling, Machinedrum-esque footwork drum rhythms that are prevalent in plenty of Deft's previous work. Here, the focus is on the deeper and darker. "After hearing what [label founders] Ivy Lab had in mind for 20/20, it instantly brought me back to the early beats scene," says Deft. "The beats scene was something that got me excited back when it emerged properly. I felt that excitement again with 20/20." Each of Blackest's five tracks stand out for varying reasons, but it's the penultimate one – a Tehbis and Touchy Subject collaboration – that has resonated with us beyond comparison. A track that seems to continually metamorphose within its 3.5 minute timeframe, so many musical territories are broached that it's pretty impossible to summarise. Initially luring you in through an ethereal world of crystallised synth fragments, the forecast slowly grows murkier, as the entire tracks gets sucked into dizzying whirlwind of dubby drums and electric static. A notable comeback from a truly talented beatsmith.

Blackest EP will be available both digitally and on vinyl on 8th April via 20/20 LDN Recordings and all good record stores.

We first came into contact with it during Coyote's very own label showcase late last year; a session where the synth-laden epic tailed Last Japan's already hardbodied set.
