Hello, and welcome back to the next (somewhat irregular) instalment of MFBT. This mix is a super special, all-original session brought to us by Crayons, a quieter project of Winnipeg techno artist, Robert Alexander. 

In addition to performing live at events and festivals around YWG/Western Canada, Robert also releases on various labels, including Vivid North, Purespace Recordings, ADRO Records, and the Oscill8 collective out of Calgary (of which he is also a member). 

While his live sets are exclusively hardware-based, Robert has also scored multiple short films, including the award-winning short, "Trauma". 

Incredibly, all synth work on this mix is performed using the Moog DFAM, a piece of gear that’s mostly associated with harder, industrial sounds. As per Robert, “I wanted to showcase it’s far more than a gnarly techno machine”. 

If you’re in the Winnipeg/Treaty 1 area, look for Robert performing some ambient sounds, live in a park, somewhere, this summer.

It's hard to overstate the impact this man and his label BBE have on our scene. Is it 25 years already? So many incredible moments that influenced generations of DJ's and music lovers. Pewrsonally I would have to cite the Strange Games and Funky Things series featuring legends DJ Spinna, Kenny Dope and Mr Thing. Jazzy Jeff's Hip Hop forever. Dimitri From Paris with several entries absolutly knocking the art of editing and remixing disco classics out of the park. Dilla's solo effort Welcome To Detroit (Thats just been re-released as a tasty 7" bundle). Kon and Amir's visionary Off Track series.... all of these have been game changing in their own rights but only make about 1% of the output of BBE. 
Obviously Pete has more dimensions to him than "just" A&Ring one of the most legendary labels there is but let's stick to the music and follow him on this week's journey as he kindly has contributed the latest addition to the series. Thank you and enjoy!
