"زارمردان" مخفف "هزارمردان" و در اصل لقبي بوده كه پادشاهان ساساني به سرداران و حاكمان خود در شهرها داده اند. به نوشته "محمد قزويني"، هزار مرد، لقبي است كه از قديم ميان ايرانيان معمول و مرسوم بوده است.
