Mark Kloud – Rustle / Summer Melt  - Air Mass Music

Mark Kloud returns with a two-track single that blends lo-fi textures, abstract rhythms, and subtle jazz inflections, channeling the spirit of late ’90s and early 2000s downtempo and trip hop.

“Rustle” opens with a chill, laid-back energy, steadily evolving into an uplifting journey of hazy beats and warm melodies. In contrast, “Summer Melt” takes a more experimental approach, weaving together abstract percussion and mellow lo-fi atmospheres to create a somber yet peaceful soundscape.

As the first in a series of releases on Air Mass Music, the sub-label of Ground Mass Music, this single reflects the careful sonic exploration Mark has been developing over the past year — music that balances nostalgia with forward-thinking production.

Following a successful 2016 with his well-received Golden Tides, Bahia and Sunlit Forest EP’s Joe Morris returns to offer up four new cuts on Kenny Wisdom and Joe Burrin’s much lauded Pleasure Unit imprint. Continuing the producer’s passion for organic New Age, paradisiacal ambience and dreamy deep house, lead title ‘Jacaranda Skies’ might be what Telephones and Larry Heard sound like should they have met in Rimini circa ’91. A dusky atmosphere provides the backdrop to ecstasy inducing chords, an elevated brass sequence and afro percussion driving a tight groove. ‘Mangrove Dawn’ is an aural quaalude hit; gentle synth washes fold over each other, nature sounds buzz through a distant 303. ‘The Lost Garden’ opens to a reverb-soaked slide guitar and soaring pad section before a Jaguar snarl gives way to a subtle kick pattern atop M1 chimes and a Bali bells. ‘Reprise’ closes the EP off with a beat-less take on the original, the melodies given more space; the sonic equivalent of open-air swaying under hazy pink skies
