Here is one of my favorite hymns about trouble, sadness, and hope.

The song was written by Emma Lou Thayne and Joleen G. Meredith in 1971, when they were serving on the Young Women’s General Board of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They said is was about helplessness in the face of personal and family trials, specifically mental illness. 

For me, it expresses beautifully the vulnerable and transcendant experience that is love and life. We control very little, but we hope for very much. Sometimes that comes, thanks to gratitude and grace.
