Great Set.  Your words are amazing.  Matt did "allow you to be free."  You played some of your greatest set's at Vortex parties.  Matt was knew what he was doing.  At the Amethst Vortex, during your set we were all at the fire which was some distance away, and Matt kept stopping what he was doing and saying (well just looking at everyone) and going are you hearing this?  It was your set which was out of this world.

Right on thank you Woods!  Matt was really such a special person, I'll dig for vortex sets maybe i have more i can post ♡

Like many friends, I'm missing Matthew Parkey from the physical world today.  

The soul of the desert, Matthew was always friendly and inclusive.  Always.  At a time when I felt I was told to be playing this way or that in the desert, he allowed me to be free.  At a time when I was not feeling included, he made me feel home.

His events, to me, were the first notable series of desert events outside of fmg.  They were not perfectly organized by any means but they were definitely organized with love by one of the most loving people I knew, and I think that's what stuck with most of us.  He was definitely a visionary, and in more recent years he spent much of his time making music.  

I always deal with pain and loss with music, so this evening I will release my set from one of Matthew's events, Beora, in Oct 2014.  I think it's my favorite set I played for him.

This set is a nighttime set despite the picture, one of the few sets I started with an ambient track but it's definitely techno from 2 minutes in

Zacharia is a name synonymous amongst Seattle’s underground dance music culture. Starting his musical and personal healing journey in the mid 90’s within the warehouse walls of the rave scene, he quickly found himself at the forefront of the drum and bass movement curating events and performing alongside the top tier drum and bass artists of the time. After being submerged in amen breaks and the driving / edgy sounds of dnb for 10 years, Zacharia was led to Burningman in 2005. It was there that he started his accent to the next phase of his musical expression. Coinciding with this change in musical direction was a shift in his personal path too healing. This trajectory can be tracked when following his musical progression, the past 17 years. Zacharia chose to start anew, eventually detaching from who he was personally and musically, and recreated himself from the ground up. As the Phoenix ascended, a more authentic, grateful, and loving version of himself emerged. 

Zacharia also prides himself on is his work helping to design and support Rane mixers during his tenure working with the original company between 2007 - 2016. His pinnacle accomplishment within the company was his hand in bringing to the world the MP2015 rotary mixer which, to this day, is a necessary component in his performances. 

Rane was sold in 2016 at which point Zacharia felt inspired to share the wisdom he had acquired on his own path to healing and chose to become a substance abuse counselor. After graduating in 2018, Zacharia found a perfect home with Bhadra Recovery and is currently the clinical supervisor and lead counselor, focusing on non-traditional methods and modalities to help others reconnect with themselves and others. 

This career path and his musical expression have begun to coalesce in a really beautiful way. 

More fully resourced and with a broader understanding of the healing process, Zacharia connects the masculine and feminine aspects of himself, delivering driving, yet gentle and nurturing, soundscapes with the intention to dig into the tough spots while resonating with the heart. Invigorated, passionately inspired, and heart centered, Zacharia is extremely excited to share the journey of life and re-discovery through his music today and long into the future.

My return to Moontribe after 4 years!  Hey it ain't so easy to pull off living in Oregon... but good news, my venue booking business has me in California at least once a month so far this year :)

Anyway, it was great to be back!  For a March Full Moon this was a little more intimate than I was expecting - still a few hundred people there on a beautiful Thursday night though!

Musically this is on the faster,(130bpm) harder end of my range.  I did also slip in some breakbeats at the beginning and in the middle.

A lot of people haven't heard me play this style, and I always get a couple surprised comments when I play like this.  It's good to keep people on their toes!

I'll post the track list soon, but it takes a minute, and I wanted to get this up before it gets late :)  

I had a really great time here, and I danced for hours.  It was the first time I'd been in front of a huge system since the pandemic, sounded so good out there!

Here is part one of the infamous Moontribe 29-year kimono set that I previously may have made some waves about - this part is on the house side but trippy for the desert...

This set had many challenges. I made a great playlist for it from my entire collection, did everything except export to usb, and then my logic board failed the next day.  Bye bye playlist!

So I rebuilt, as we do.  But with limited time my rebuild was limited to the last year of music, as well as some brand new music.  On top of that, I had convinced myself that my sets at Teleport and Moontribe were at exactly the same time - 10pm to midnight.  I think I told like 30 people this too :)  And of course I made my playlists - even the old one that disappeared - based on the 10-12 time frame

Sunday morning I look at the directions email and my set is listed at 6:00-8:30pm.  I thought it had maybe been changed on me then checked my message thread and I’ve just totally made up the 10-12 thing :) 

Point is that close to summer solstice 6:00-8:30 is a daytime set into sunrise while 10-12 is night-time ascending energy - they are drastically different energetically.  

So I made another new fricken 29-Year playlist based on my music of the past year, daytime into sunset.  I decided both ahead of time, and on the dance floor, that this Moontribe needed some trippy desert house music so that was the first hour.

This is the opening set at 11pm, which ramps up to some funky, dirty breaks at around the 21 minute mark.

The first 20 minutes of chill and tribal house was crafted as an intro that sets the tone for the night, as the bonfire was lit in a spectacular fashion at about the  14 minute mark.

Biography:

In his zone from deep house to techno, Ben Annand pairs impeccably smooth mixing skills with a dynamic style that keeps the music moving, artfully playing with breakdowns and spending most of his time in the mix.

“For me, a great mix is the interplay of 2 unique pieces of music, creating something greater than the sum of the parts - and a great set weaves those mixes into a musical flow you can’t help but lose yourself in on the dance floor.”

Ben fell in love with dancing and rave culture in 1995, and learned to mix in 1996. Just 2 years later he became resident dj at the famed Moontribe Gathering, and started his own production company, Tropical. The first half of his career was mostly focused on DJing abroad, with 13 trips to Moscow’s Propaganda club, travel across Russia, Spain, and Mexico, an appearance at Wiggle at Fabric in London and two at the Labyrinth Festival in Japan.  

In more recent years, Ben Annand became a top West Coast festival DJ, and recently played a standout set at his 5th consecutive Lightning in a Bottle (CA). He has also appeared at Sunset Campout and Desert Hearts (CA), Oregon Eclipse (OR), Photosynthesis and Cascadia (WA), Shambhala and Motion Notion (BC, Canada).

As organizer of Tropical, he's donated over $32,000 to charity, hosted zero-waste events in Hawaii, and presented gender-balanced dj lineups.

Whatever his project,, Ben Annand is always contributing, and always thinking outside the box.
