THEME FROM COVID IN CONCERT

"It's Been Knowing You," is part of my adaptation of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, my second year project at BMI.  In this story, Joel Barish decides to erase his ex, Clementine Kruscynski, from his memory, and lives through his memories of her as they erased.  At the end of the evening, he finds himself in the midst of his last memory of Clementine and must say goodbye.  Christiana Little and Noel Carey are featured here singing "It's Been Nice Knowing You," with music and lyrics by Ben Boecker.  Please note, I do not have the rights to Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and this adaptation was produced for educational purposes.

In "Spellbound!", Cedarpunzel, a witch who lives in New Hampshire, runs away from home to find her true love.  Before she does so, she dreams of finding true love on her own terms, while reading from a fairytale book her mother left her.

"The Mind is Overrated" is another song from my adaptation of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, which was my second-year project at BMI.  Here, Joel Barrish tries to convince himself to take the final plunge into erasing his ex, Clementine, from his memory completely, by taking a small pill the doctor gave him.

Laura, very recently divorced from a late bloomer of a gay man, is awakened after a night of heavy drinking by...what else...the New York City pride parade.  And yeah...she's pissed.

Ben is a multi-talented and diverse composer, with a background in jazz and classical piano.  He is a master at writing in styles he is unfamiliar with, and specializes in styles that haven't been invented and/or don't exist.  He is known for his superb musical ear, which lends him the ability to write in any style, including Soul, Rock, Gospel, Funk, Vaudeville, Pop, and anything else you might desire.  

Ben is also a talented lyricist, with a love for old-school comedy, anachronism, and everything eclectic.  He trained as a lyricist at the Island Songwriters' Workshop on Long Island, and under Bland Simpson at UNC Chapel Hill in North Carolina.  His idols and influences include Jason Robert Brown, Stephen Schwartz, Alan Menken, Stephen Sondheim, and Queen.

Ben was the recipient of the 2012 Sam Selden Award for Undergraduate Playwriting for his One-Act Musical, "Spellbound!"  He is a graduate of UNC Chapel Hill, where he graduated with highest honors, earning a Bachelor's of Music in Vocal Performance and Composition, and a minor in Arts Entrepreneurship.  He is currently studying songwriting at the BMI Musical Theatre Writing Workshop in New York City.
