The end of the Apollo program came as a very sad day for the hundreds of thousands of Americans involved in its success. Although they knew the program was expensive, they also knew it was worth it. Congress canceled the final three Apollo missions, and the Saturn V rockets that would have been used are now in museums at Kennedy Space Center (Florida), Johnson Space Center (Texas), and Marshall Spaceflight Center (Alabama). They are quite possibly the most expensive museum exhibits in modern history.

It has been my dream since childhood to join the U.S. Astronaut Corps. I dedicated my life and career to achieving that goal. Unfortunately, due to deteriorating physical and mental health, I will not be able to pass the medical exams necessary to join the corps. On September 26th, 2022, the Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) Mission will rendezvous with the binary asteroid Didymos and its satellite Dimorphos. This is the first mission to an asteroid to primarily study planetary defense techniques to mitigate the risk from asteroids impacting Earth.

After over two years of searching, I finally found a rhyme scheme and a subject I wanted to sing about that would fit the tune of the beloved Stan Rogers' "Northwest Passage," one of the songs that inspired me to start writing space shanties in the first place.
