The Painting 

When she was a young girl, she used to smile
Until one day she realized, we’re here just a while
She cried as they laid her daddy in his grave 
From that moment onward, she was never the same
Until she saw his face and heard his voice
His sense of humor made her rejoice
Our days are numbered, she never forgets 
She let him love her and love let her live
She had a baby, they named him Miles
After her grandpa walked her down the aisle 
Miles was born with a foot in the grave
He took his first and last breaths the very same day
She held him close and looked in his eyes
Told him she loved him and kissed him goodbye
She held on for hours, until the nurses came 
Ever so gently, they took Miles away
He went to work like he did every day
But he never came back sadly to say 
It all went wrong and he met his end 
She got a phone call she lost her best friend
Somehow she knew the second he died 
She was the last thing that entered his mind
He had to let go and go toward the light
Now he watches over the love of his life 
Down to the last of her promised days 
It took a long time to get here, she sits and she waits 
She stares at a painting that she bought today
If it’s the last thing she sees, well, she won’t look away
It’s a warm sunny day in a bluebonnet field 
A little creek flows past some rocks on the hill
Off in the distance she can see someone wave
She’d like to go there, one of these days 
Some months have past by, since she grew her wings 
Her relatives gather and go through her things
They box up her dishes and talk about her will
They take down the painting of the bluebonnet field
