Norway’s +plattform returns to PLOINK with new techno album ‘18-192’.

Having cemented itself as one of Norway’s leading Techno event series for over 20 years, PLOINK launched as a label in 2014 and has since hosted releases by Scandinavian talents such as Mental Overdrive, Joaquin Ruiz, Prins Thomas, Skatebård, Vakum, Christian Tilt, KSMISK and many more. 

Previously appearing on PLOINK with his Spellemannsprisen (Norwegian Grammy) winning ‘Twelve’ album in 2017, +plattform returns to the imprint with ‘18-192’, another dense journey through his signature brand of esoteric techno.

Stretched generously across four sides of vinyl, each track brings with it a unique identity while remaining rooted in the wider vision of the album as a whole, with masterful use of space, distinctive sound sources, and oddball sensibilities evident on all tracks. From the metallic groans of opener ‘Huck’ through to the submerged rumbling of closing track ‘ngels’, ‘18-192’ shows +plattform at his most accomplished.

“Being stuck in a rut after ‘Twelve’ and being discontent with the general direction in techno, I found freedom in broadening my sound and letting time do its thing whilst continuing to look towards the future and its music. ‘18-192’ is the culmination of time, changes and travelling with my closest ones. The material collated on this third release from Heavenly Music Corporation was composed specifically for St. Giga in Japan, a satellite broadcast radio station transmitting ethereal audio harmony 24 hours a day. What made this station otherworldly was its programming; motivated by tidal movements, the aquatic ebbs and flows of each day synchronised to the activity and intensity of the music broadcast.

Billow Observatory – the trans-atlantic duo consisting of Detroit's Jason Kolb (Auburn Lull) and Danish producer Jonas Munk (Manual) – are back with a follow-up to the their debut album from 2012.

”II: Plains/Patterns” departs from the first LP’s amorphous ambient haze with a more rigid, albeit subtle, underpinning of rhythm and pulse. The duo’s obsession with “place and space” comes clearly into focus with an album that draws deeply from Munk and Kolb’s individual proximity to the geographically distant, but oddly similar, sounds of Germany and Michigan, past and present.

Traces of shoegaze, modern minimal electronica, and kosmische appear on every track, but are mutated into something mysterious and new. ”Pulsus”, for example, opens the album with a driving teutonic stutter and washes of serene guitar loops that are punctuated by bursts of filtered synth patterns; a combination that seamlessly bridges the gaps between disparate genres and periods of time.

Centerpiece, ”Plains”, expands the ambient formula into an inspired epic in three parts, where swells of processed guitars, distant voices and faint echoes of Detroit techno are weaved together to form a kaleidoscopic whole. And tracks such as ”Vex” and ”Plum” seem to pay as much homage to Slowdive and Eno's Harold Budd collaborations as to the modern minimalism from Cologne or Berlin.

Krzysztof Penderecki - String Quartets I&II (Remix)

Andrew Field-Pickering, commonly referred to as Maxmillion Dunbar or Max D, is in control of the decks for Truancy Volume 53. He is one half of the Future Times, the label responsible for some of dreamiest and tastefully retrospective music of the last few years. Coming from a background rooted in punk music, Pickering began his journey in high school through bands. At the same time his curiosity led him to delve deeper for the source material of the hip-hop songs he heard which brought disco and DJ culture to his attention. Musically, he’s part of Beautiful Swimmers with Ari Goldman, the lyrical front man of Food For Animals and on his own he’s behind the layered and synth-drenched music of Maxmillion Dunbar.
