During the summer, I went through one of the worst bouts of anxiety I’d ever had, becoming terrified about the uncertainty of my future. After a month of barely sleeping, massive loss of appetite, feeling sick to my stomach every day and becoming afraid to work on music, I’ve only recently started to feel better fully and begun to seek professional help, but my fear of failure combined with my worries over my future life are still there.

I’m in the incredibly privileged position to be able to have chosen a university course and direction of study that interests me, and I want to make that count more than anything right now. Regardless of where I may end up, I’m throwing my whole weight behind my work, because I refuse to stop trying to turn the privilege I’ve been given into something that makes an impact on people, the same way that other’s creative work has impacted me forever.

Though it started as a way to finish off a year-old musical idea, ‘Gradual Confidence’ has become my way of at least trying to push through some of my fears. I hope that it brings some comfort to you too!

Jita 4-4 is a fan-made short audio drama set in the EVE Online universe, recording the final moments of a capsuleer in the bustling Jita trade hub and spaceport. (Prior knowledge of the game and its lore is not required!)
A barely governable group of superhuman starship pilots, capsuleers wield immense power and influence throughout the stars, thanks to cloning technology making them essentially immortal - why this person seemingly chose to sabotage their consciousness transferral to a new clone is still under investigation by State police, and speculated on in whispered tones throughout the bustling hallways in which they died.

Report: Managed to access the clone memory and recording backups made when they died (still not sure why we were held back from this line of enquiry for so long?) and got the final recording – there’s file corruption towards the end, but everything before then perfectly lines up with the autopsy.
 
One thing this still doesn’t answer, at least for me, is the why – between you and me, this is one of the only capsuleer suicides I’ve heard of, you’d think nothing would trouble you with the level of power these people have, never mind literal immortality? Still, not my place to judge or hypothesise here. Lemme know if there’s anything else you need, wouldn’t mind moving onto something a little less ominous soon.

21-year-old Ben Moss (they/them) is a composer, sound editor, multi-instrumentalist, and performer from the UK.
 
Combining their love of emotive, impactful soundtracks with a lifelong passion for moving storytelling across the arts, they blend inventive sound and synth design, EDM-influenced production, and atmospheric instrumental arrangements, pushing themselves to best amplify the stories they're helping to tell.
 
Growing up as an avid performer, singer and musical theatre nerd, Ben’s focus shifted to backstage sound work as they discovered the worlds of melodic electronic and bass music. Combined with a growing love of games, films and TV shows, they began to realise the depth of storytelling power sound and music both have, as well as how much they'd changed from both the stories themselves, and the supportiveness, kindness and creativity of their fandoms. Currently based in Beaconsfield, they are studying an MA in Composing for Film and TV at the National Film and Television School, aiming to develop and expand his skillsets in music for film, TV, documentary and game work.
 
They are currently working on new projects, including an upcoming feature film and a short animated film, both releasing this year. They are also a baritone singer, trumpet player and actor, performing for four years in shows with the National Youth Music Theatre, and is a current member of the National Youth Theatre, both as an actor and backstage worker.
