For the last 25 years, Luke Slater has been a master in sound design. Throughout his career he’s operated under several different guises, with an extensive back catalogue that’s widely regarded as one of techno’s greatest. 

He started out in the early 90s releasing seminal works on labels like Peacefrog, and in 2006 he started putting out music via his own label Mote Evolver, yet his output hasn’t slowed down since then: the best example of this is probably last year’s killer 'Arc Angel' LP he released as Planetary Assault Systems via Ostgut Ton.

Slater is equally lauded as a DJ. Through our history he’s become something of a Farringdon staple, and his clinical precision has helped make his Room Two sets highly anticipated among the techno contingent of our family.

He reminded us why he’s become so integral to our space at his last appearance with us. Following on from Terry Francis and Black Asteroid’s bewildering live show, Slater stepped up to close out the room with a dramatic and transcendent 3-hour closing.

As we invite him to return to his adopted Room Two home this coming Saturday, we uncovered the recording from last year in anticipation.

Here's the first of a few sets/mixes I'll be posting up. It's a recording of my mate DJ Deep and me going b2b in Paris at one of his Deeply Rooted nights at Rex from a couple of years back. It’s never been online before and it was a spontaneous, end of the night kinda thing and lots of fun. Hopefully you can hear that in the recording. As well as current heat from the time, there's a healthy sprinkling of classics, some Detroit faves in there for the heads and aptly finishes with a remix 'Phuture will survive'. Amazing live DJ mix from the late John Peel's Maida Vale studio.

Jeff Mills is one of the biggest names in techno. Hailing from Detroit, he was a founding member of the noted label Underground Resistance before moving to NY in 1992 to pursue a solo career. Famed for his stripped-down, pounding industrial DJ sets, Mills plays regularly in London at his Lost club nights. Mills' music fuses acid and industrial techno with the typically sparse hardcore of Detroit. His releases include two full-length volumes of 'Waveform Transmissions' (Tresor), a live album and rarities collection for the British label React, and the first album in a new contract with Sony Japan, as well as a handful of 12-inch EPs on Axis and several collaborations with Robert Hood on his M-Plant label. In 2000, Mills scored a new soundtrack for Fritz Lang's 'Metropolis'.
