EPM Podcast 141 comes from UK producer, Blueprint label runner and DJ James Ruskin. A bastion for British Techno, Blueprint Records was originally founded in 1996 by James and the late Richard Polson and since then has continued to be at the forefront of cutting-edge labels. Entering its 25th year with a series of 3 12” EPs we are also delighted to have James involved with our own 20th celebrations this year with his track ‘There Was A Time’ as showcased in this new mix. Taking a more restrained and experimental techno path this set sees Ruskin bring the likes of VC-118A, Surgeon, Mal Hombre, Bambounou, Kerrie, Planetary Assault Systems (PAS), Shifted, Vril, Anodyne and more into the frame. 

Consistently releasing quality material through Blueprint since the label's mid-'90s foundation, Ruskin has also issued several full-lengths and EPs through German institution Tresor, including 2001's ‘Into Submission’ and 2008’s ‘The Dash’. In addition to releasing collaborations with Surgeon and Oliver Ho, Ruskin has also worked with Regis (Karl O'Connor) as O/V/R, and produced more experimental, IDM-leaning material with Mark Broom as the Fear Ratio with several albums featuring on Manchester’s iconic Skam label as well as the duo’s new Deadhand moniker which recently saw an EP released on Seagrave feat. DJ Prime Cuts and rapper Sensational. As a series of EP releases drops as part of the label’s 25 year celebrations and with several album projects in the pipeline, 2021 sees James firmly back in the production hot seat. Having been prolific since the late ‘90s Ben Sims is the quintessential techno artist. His discography reads like a who’s who of techno labels while his own imprints like Hardgroove, Theory or Symbolism have helped shape the modern techno landscape. What can we say about Ben’s utterly insane skills on the decks? His tooly, looping mixing style spellbinds all those that bear witness to his DJ sets and the different styles that Ben has managed to cram into his podcast for Terminal V is just a taster of what to expect from him…

Gaetano Parisio, is one of the most consistent artists in techno, releasing records since the 90s that remain staples in every respectable DJ’s record box. Co-creator of the Neapolitan Techno School, he is now prepared to present a GAETEK LIVE and ORIGENS.
Starting as Gaetek, Gaetano (from Napoli, Italy) released a flurry of classics on labels like Planet Rhythm and Primate Recordings, records that were immediately elevated into regular rotation by icons like Dave Clarke, Sven Vath and even Jeff Mills himself.
He soon launched his first label, CONFORM, which quickly became a beacon for the Napolitano techno scene for which Parisio and Marco Carola were now torchbearers.
They became fixtures at the world’s best clubs and festivals with a four-turntable/two-mixer set-up that left crowds screaming for more while their studio work together lead them to befriended like-minded artists like Adam Beyer, Ben Sims, and The Advent, all of whom released music on Conform. During the same time, Gaetano brought the techno scene together on a charity compilation, Techcommunity 4 Kosovo, to aid the children of war-torn Kosovo—a rare and shocking flare-up of violence within the relatively peaceful boundaries of modern Europe.
If Conform was about community, Gaetano’s next label, ART (Advanced Techno Research), was a one-man affair that issued a series of nine limited-edition, precision-crafted, two-track singles, over the span of two years. He continued the conceptual approach to production with the book-inspired Chapter series, released on his new SOUTHSOUL label, which introduced a deep house-flavored techno sound that was eagerly endorsed by DJs of all stripes. Next came the five-part ADAGIO series of minimal tracks (on the label of the same name), which continued Gaetano’s evolution as a producer at the same time techno was reinventing itself for the new Millennium.
In 2007, Gaetano took a step away from the frenetic life of an international DJ. During that time, he continued recording hundreds of tracks for the pleasure of the music intelligentsia, only. In 2017, he moved to Barcelona, Spain and set-up a new studio where he produced brand new music with several collaborators that will be revealed shortly. He also republished the back catalogs of his labels (this time in digital format, too), setting the stage for the new GAETEK LIVE and ORIGENS (a three turntables dj set just as he used to play in the beginning of his career) intended to introduce his 25-year-plus music career to techno’s next generation.
