Welcome to DRR Podcast 089, for our first episode of the week we welcome Jay Denham, from Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA.

Jay Denham is the second generation Detroit techno pioneer - musician, dj artist and producer from Kalamazoo, Michigan - city right in the middle between Chicago and Detroit. His style is a unique blend of these two worlds - Chicago house and Detroit techno, with a Kalamazoo touch. He stays true to the underground, makes the music for the art of it and always remembers where he comes from.

In 1992, Jay Denham struck out on his own. He founded Black Nation Records and launched it with his seminal "Birth of a Nation" E.P. (allusion to the infamous and subversive Ku Klux Klan propaganda film of the same title), featuring tracks by Denham himself and as well as his colleagues - Fanon Flowers, Tony Ollie, Brett Dancer, and Chance McDermott. Black Nation's philosophy: driving underground grooves for the funk-conscious record buyer.

With the success of Black Nation relentless releases of pure Detroit techno, Jay was able to refine his sound to what he describes as the funky techno sound.

Tribal Digs - is an ep filled with tribal and afro adventure. sounds that were other known bigger than the hot body records sound. normally we release a state of the underground but this high fueled pace release stretches a big mainstream (yet still underground) sound. after big beatport labels try to utilize sampling or congas in a way of a standpoint. hot body records on this release is trying to be only cool for what they can with a stellar tribal or other known percussive house release. Other Mamba is the release embrace of tribal sampling with spanish taste of latin house crave. Congola Dig is more of the bass heavy jive with sonic percussion. very dense congas and tribal vibes on this release from hot body records. Distributed by Label Engine - www.label-engine.com

Rodrigo Risso iniciou sua carreira em 2003 influenciado pelo techno contagiante dos Djs Mau Mau, Chris Liebing, Dave Clarke e Ben Sims, de onde vem grande parte de sua influência sonora.

Em 2008 começou a se aventurar no Ableton Live e a produzir suas próprias músicas. A empreitada deu frutos. Atualmente, está a frente do selo Zoowork Music, voltado ao techno. Em seus sets busca explorar a face mais enérgica do techno, com bastante groove, linhas de bass bem definidas e tracks atualizadas.

Tocou em grandes festas como Fervo, Fuel Techno, Techneura, e em clubs como Clash, Lab e A'Lôca. Também possui produções em labels como Válvula Records (onde foi lançada a track "Kuiper" em vinil), Amigos Recordings, Primitive State Records, Paunchy Cat, entre outros.

KEN ISHII made his debut on the legendary Belgian techno label R&S Records in 1993. In that year he reached No.1 on UK’s NME magazine’s techno chart which led him to worldwide recognition. In 1997, the video for the single ‘EXTRA’ (directed by Koji Morimoto) from the same album won MTV's ‘Dance Video of the Year.’ Since then, Ken is regarded internationally as one of the Japanese pioneers of world-class electronic sounds. Ken produced the official theme song for the 1998 Nagano Olympics and have worked on various film scores. 

Ken spends half of his time traveling in Europe, Asia, North/South America DJing, and he is currently producing an original KEN ISHII album for the first time in 13 years that is scheduled to release in 2019.
