A street guy stands near the southbound 22-Fillmore bus stop improvising song and spoken word. The 22 pulls up and some younger denizens depart on the bus, as does this archivist.

Just another MUNI ride. It may not sound like it, but it's PACKED with commuters. Commuters are professionals -- they know all the etiquette and don't pay any mind to the characters heard here on the bus. There are two guys, one in the front yelling "Matthew" and what sounds like "Number 9" (perhaps an ode to the Beatles), and another guy with headphones on just muttering and passing uncomfortable glances at a female stranger beside him.

You can hear me snort with laughter when headphones guy comments on "Matthew" guy, looking over to the woman he's creeping out and stating "that guy's crazy".

Guy and his kids on the BART with some story at one of the Oakland stops, sharing a song with a train full of commuters headed to SF after a long, hard day of work. Poor kids look like they were tired of doing this song over and over and over... they played the tamborine and drum.

So it's that time of year again in SF -- three days of the Blue Angels scaring the beejezus out of old ladies and setting off car alarms across swaths of the city. I realized Friday that during one maneuver of the Blue Angel's show, one aircraft does a low sweep of the city, popping up behind the crowd at the official viewing area at Aquatic Park. To do that means the guy has to fly directly over my house in the Lower Haight. I was ready to record this as if approached, and here it is, coming straight at my window.

Nice sunny morning at the SF Veteran's Administration Hospital in the Richmond District, with the birds out in full force.

Ben is that guy in the corner with his hands in his pocket looking grumpy and deciding what drink selection is economically viable considering his current financial standing. He used to think he might DJ and/or produce electronic music, but the harsh mistress of reality directed his talents elsewhere. He now listens to other people's problems for free and tries to help THEM fix them with some success (also for free). Not having lost the love affair with sound, you may see him from time to time with a digital recorder (okay, his iPhone) raised in the air, documenting the sound of a northwesterly breeze ruffling the autumn leaves or some chickenhead screaming about her no-good baby daddy. As his friend Roderick would say, "Ahhh, life."
