De uma forma sinérgica e natural, as netlabels brasileiras Tropical Twista Records (@tropicaltwistarecords) & Casa Caos (@casacaos) têm suas histórias entrelaçadas por similaridades e simpatia mútua — somos labels irmãs. Como primeiro resultado dessa intersecção/colaboração, entregamos, feita a quatro mãos, a compilação "Mvndivagante": uma expedição sonora com 16 faixas, reunindo intuitivamente artistas que interpretam, reinventam, questionam e deslocam significados de suas próprias experiências com o mundo.

Mundivagante é uma palavra que vem do latim “mundi” (“mundo”), e “vagus” (“viajante”), logo, um viajante do mundo. Acreditamos que por trás dessa interessante palavra escondem-se muitas nuances de significados; basta ver que o "mundivagante" não é somente aquele que tem a oportunidade de viajar (fisicamente) o mundo todo, mas também aquela que tem interesse em se banhar e nutrir de outras culturas e se aproximar delas; culturas tão diferentes e tão próximas a nós ao mesmo tempo.

Para nós, mundivagante é aquele que tem a vontade inerente de ser do mundo e de que o mundo seja parte essencial dele.

In a coacting and natural way, the Brazilian Tropical Twista Records & Casa Caos netlabels have their stories intertwined by closeness and mutual sympathy - we are sister labels. As a first result of this intersection and/or collaboration, we present the ‘Mvindivagante’ compilation: a 16-track sound expedition, intuitively bringing together artists who interpret, reinvent, question and displace meanings of their own experiences with the world.

Mundivagante is a word that comes from the Latin ‘mundi’ (‘world’), and ‘vagus’ (‘traveler’), thus, a traveler of the world. We believe that behind this interesting word are hidden many nuances of meanings; it is enough to see that the ‘mundivagante’ is not only the one who has the opportunity to travel (physically) the whole world, but also the one that has interest in bathing and nourishing of other cultures and approaching them; so different and so close to us at the same time.

In this way, “Mvndivagante” reflects the inherent will to be of the world and that the world is an essential part of it.

Born and raised in Vancouver, Mariam has been collecting traditional Armenian folk songs and creating her own melodies since she was a child. Most of the traditional songs she sings have been passed down through her family – songs that have been favourites of her grandmother and her mother, and now they have become her own favourites. With over ten years of training in classical voice, Mariam brings the range and control of a classical singer to the spontaneity and passion of the folk tradition and combines the two to produce a synthesis that has earned her rave reviews from everyone who has heard her.

In 1998, she traveled to Armenia, the first member of her family to set foot in the Homeland. She volunteered for an English-language newspaper there and through that work, learned about the plight of the many street children. In 2002, she took a leave of absence from her teaching career to return to Armenia to work with these children. It was during this time that Mariam’s passion for singing met her new commitment to bring attention to contemporary Armenia. When she returned to Vancouver, she continued to perform the songs she had learned from her family and songs she had learned in Armenia, including those taught to her by some of the children she had worked with in Yerevan. Those who heard her sing told her she needed to record.

Isaac Soto’s new EP “Marmol” is out in all digital stores!

The EP, consisting of 4 tracks, is a unique mash-up of classical and contemporary compositions, contrasting organic sounds with synthetic textures; employing samples, powerful bass lines, catchy instrumental tunes and laid back vocals.

The first track, Campo Minado is an ever-expanding musical fractal with Isaac’s piano guiding through his maze of layered structures, enhanced with muted guitars. The underlying bass line moves the listener, as they evolve into high pitched sounds creating a sci-fi atmosphere midway through the track while the synth sounds at the end prepare the ground for the next track.

Cristal starts where Campo Minado left off, expanding the soundscape even more with its organ sounds reminiscent of Baroque pieces. The electronic sounds swiftly caress the ears while Sato builds the tension in the track, creating a sense of scale. 

The tension of Cristal comes to a resolution in the last track, Quena. The triangle of flute, vocals, and the gentle tapping sounds create an airy atmosphere, before reaching the climactic bass-heavy part. The gentle taps give way to heavy steps of bass, the spaciousness of the flute morphs into a longing cry and Sato’s ever-present piano shows itself for one last time to close the EP. 

The artwork of the EP, showing a chemical reaction between vitamins, emphasizes the combination of organic and man-made, vivifying Sato’s audial language.
