ALMEMORIUM - Will I ever see you shine again? (2021)

This electronic study represents my ongoing exploration of neural networks and their potential in music. By integrating various pre-trained models and a custom-trained choir model using RAVE, the IRCAM software on deep learning algorithm, I investigate poetic possibilities for AI in sound creation. This research examines AI as both an instrument and a collaborator in the music-making process.

The piece centers around an existential meditation on being, non-being. The dialogue between machine and voice resonates with questions surrounding AI's ambiguous role in our lives. As the neural network processes these reflections, it generates an unpredictable soundscape that mirrors my journey to understand and creatively expand AI’s role in music.

This work invites listeners to question consciousness, the passage of time, and the fragile boundary between life and silence, contributing to a broader search for new forms of musical expression.

"Pillars of Creation" embarks on a profound sonic expedition, delving into themes of evolution and transformation. The composition begins with bold and arresting sound blocks, reminiscent of alarming screams, gradually evolving into ethereal textures characterized by winds and strings, punctuated by escalating bursts. As the piece progresses, a somber pulsation emerges, leading to a climactic eruption of percussion. Emerging from this rumble is a solitary piano harmonic note, initiating a tranquil choral of instrument multiphonics. However, as the piece draws to a close, the initial sound blocks return, though now transformed by the journey they have undertaken, bearing the echoes of all that has come before, ultimately concluding with a piercing scream-like sound. Through its dynamic narrative arc, "Pillars of Creation" invites listeners to contemplate the intricate interplay between turmoil and serenity, darkness and light, leaving an indelible impression of metamorphosis.
