I wrote the original version of this several years ago whilst a lot of my friends were at Luminosity and I was in the somewhat less sunshiney city of Leeds, and ever since, the idea of trying to do a proper trance remix of it has been floating around the back of my mind. As often happens, it sort of sat on the back burner for too long and got forgotten about, until watching some of the live streams from this years Lumi stirred a memory and I had another crack a it, and this is the result.........I like it, I hope you do to :)

So I'd originally planned on entering the remix competition for this on Metapop, but got sidetracked by  life and missed the deadline (just for a change!).
Was at a loose end this weekend so decided to challenge myself to see what I could put together in a couple of days and this is the result, let me know what you think :)

Phantoms Ft Jem Cooke - Lay It All On Me (Benjamin The Grey Remix)

Anjunadeep legends Eli & Fur kindly offered up the stems to their track 'Better In The Dark' recently as part of a recent Label Radar remix contest, and seeing as how I love working with a good vocal, I couldn't resist having a play around with them, and whilst I'm pretty pleased with the results, I did run into a couple of minor snags - 
1) Despite creating a new chord progression for my remix, and using their 'Breakdown Riff' stem as a basis for the piano notes, it basically ended up bearing more than a passing similarity to one of my all time favourite tracks 'Echoes' by Darren Tate. I couldn't really ignore this once I'd noticed, so felt it was only fair to reference it in the remix title (sorry @darrentate!)
2) Turns out I didn't actually qualify for the competition anyway as it was only open to women, or those identifying as female, which kinda ruled me out (no hate here btw, thats just not me, and I'm not gonna lie just for a remix contest, just a lesson in reading the T&C's properly in future!)

So as a result, I thought I'd post it here in case anyone was interested in hearing it - I had a lot of fun with this one so I hope you like it,

Eli & Fur - Better In The Dark (Ben Shaw's Is That An Echo Remix)

I grabbed the parts to this for a remix comp ages ago and never managed to come up with anything I was particularly happy with unitl now (unsurprinsingly, yet another remix comp deadline missed :D).

Progressive Trance Mix

Occasionally I like to give myself a random challenge and write something a little different to my normal stuff, and last weekend I decided I'd try and explore a free plugin that I'd never really dived into properly since downloading it - the BBC Symphony Orchestra from Spitfire Audio. Ended up with this soundtrack type thing that I was quite pleased with so thought I'd chuk it out there and see what people think of it. 
With the exception of a couple of the piano tracks (which use the Waves Grand Rhapsody piano plugin) the rest of the track was made with either the Symphony plugin, or Spitfire's other freebie - LABS. I can't recommend both these enough to be honest, and it's pretty amazing to me that they're available for free. I consider myself to be blessed with some of the most amazing friends and family that anyone could ever ask for - whenever I've struggled through tough times, I've known that they were there, supporting me, letting me know that they hadn't forgotten me and that they cared, providing me with shining beacons of light and hope amongst the turmoil that sometimes grips my mind, and for that, I am eternally grateful, 

As the title suggests, this song was written for all of you, a small token of my love and appreciation for everything you have done for me, thank you for your love, your patience and your kindness, but most of all, thank you for being there, and for being frikkin awesome :)

One Long Week v2

I started annoying my neighbours with repetitive 4/4 beats about 15 years ago when I bought my first set of decks and progressed to really pissing them off when I began making my owns tracks and playing the same loop repeatedly for hours on end.
I used to attempt to make melodic, uplifting trance, heavily inspired by the likes of Daniel Kandi and Suncatcher, but as I've gotten older, the bpm has decreased somewhat and I've started dabbling in the more chilled, ambient genres (hence the introduction of the Benjamin the Grey moniker!).
I also like coffee (probably a bit too much), cheese (the food, not the musical kind) and still retain a soft spot for grunge music (spent my teenage years listening to Pearl Jam, Nirvana and Soundgarden etc, whilst bemoaning the fact that my life lacked any real angst).
Anyways, here's my stuff, hope you like it :)
