The Story of Bolster

It is said that Bolster the Giant could stand with one foot on St. Agnes Beacon and the other on Cairn Brea – a distance of 6 miles. All, including his poor and lonely wife, feared bolster across the land. Bolster fell in love with St. Agnes and quickly became obsessed with her. Eventually his persistence became too much and St. Agnes plotted to kill the giant. She told him that in order to prove his love he must fill a cave with his blood. Bolster leapt at the opportunity and tried to fill up the cave. Little did he know that the cave drained out to sea, causing Bolster to bleed out.
