Kazuma Onishi is a Japanese DJ & Producer based in Melbourne, Australia.

With a strong gravitational pull towards Groovy Techno, Kazuma has a diverse range and taste in music, often playing Minimal House, Deep House, and Breakbeats. Using a unique and interesting style of mixing developed over years of playing different styles, including hip-hop, R&B, and Trance, Kazuma often finds unique and new ways of blending tracks and genres. As a producer he is able to incorporate loops and samples into his sets, drawing on his wide array of inspiration to create a multi-layered groove and colourful journey. His music is often hypnotic, spacey, and high energy with a driving sense of direction balanced with trance-inducing melody.

Kazuma has played at Australian festivals, Strawberry Fields and Earthcore, as well as a myriad of Melbourne underground parties in venues such as My Aeon, Brown Alley, New Guernica, onesixone, Loop, Boney, Subclub and Bottom End.

Kazuma is also a co-founder of club events; Tokyo Love Hotel and Translate.

1. How and where was the mix recorded?
I recorded the mix in Lisbon, my current home. It was a breeze selecting tracks from my collection, adding a touch of the city's vibrant energy to the mix.

2. Can you tell us about the idea behind the mix?

Sure! The idea behind the mix was to capture the essence of spring with a blend of new and unreleased tracks. I wanted to create a fresh and uplifting vibe that resonates with the blooming atmosphere of the season.

3. What are you up to next? Projects, ideas…

I'm thrilled about the upcoming release on Luck of Access, featuring the flawless work of my friend and incredible producer, Stojche. I had the pleasure of remixing one of his tracks, and I can't wait for everyone to hear it. Stay tuned.

4. Lastly, for you what is Dance, Shake, Swing!?

Haha, it's definitely an awesome journey that is accessible to everyone who wants it. The elevation of spirit and perfect rhythms for the feet!

This sound scape features First Detection GW 150914 with detector noise, alongside original sound design and composition by Benjamin Skepper, and offers a first glimpse into WAVES, an audio visual live performance project featuring electric cello, piano, synthesiser, electronics and sonic visualisations.

ABOUT WAVES 

WAVES is a new creative work by composer and artist Benjamin Skepper, inspired by the first detection of gravitational waves by LIGO in 2015. The project reframes scientific data as emotionally resonant sound — transforming raw sonifications of gravitational wave events into an immersive, performative, and contemplative audiovisual experience.

Developed over 10 years in collaboration with physicist Prof. Susan Scott (ANU) and supported by researchers from LIGO and OzGrav, WAVES invites audiences to encounter the cosmos through sound, memory, and space-time.

This track was recorded in a forest house in the countryside Quinta near Lisbon, while we were sitting by the fireplace, warming up after our set at Doma Portugal — an event inspired by Maslenitsa, the ancient Slavic celebration of the changing seasons.
