Naarm (Melbourne AU) based singer-songwriter and kindergarten drop-out Benjamin Trillado has always been one to defy rules. When many shy away from their insecurities, their mistakes, and sometimes the ugliness of life, Trillado isn’t afraid to kiss and tell. Growing up in a Filipino household where karaoke was a way for family to connect, music has always been a core part of Benjamin’s identity. Though it's clear that Benjamin writes with indie folk and pop sensibilities, he often says he owes his vocal ability and tone to growing up learning from r&b singers. Benjamin writes from the lens of a queer Filipino kid from the western suburbs and represents a voice that he wishes he saw more of growing up. The blatant honesty of his music stems from his closeted youth, and his music serves as a promise to himself to not just tell the truth, but revel in it.
