I was not going to make a mix this year because i didnt make enough music to make a mix. Then I met this homie at a show and he asked me about the 2023 mix. You only need to have a quick nose around phil in a maze’s impressive raft of self-released singles to understand the depth of his production skills. Alternately harnessing the raw power of tech-inflected dnb and the impressionistic sophistication of dub, his set at the Unsound Closing Party at 89 was a game of tempo division and multiplication, featuring stuttering drum patterns and sludgy dancehall.

I haven’t posted a recording of my djing for quite some time now, I feel this is a moment I can and want to share.

This 5 hour closing set has been something special for me.

09:00 - 14:00

Walking into de school not knowing what was about to happen, only thinking that I would see this as my musical homage to being a resident to this amazing place, a space where I was going to play one of my most memorable sets to this day. What started as 3 hours planned of a closing ended up in 5 hours of pure bliss. 
The responses on that moment have changed a lot for me. It made me rethink why I dj, why I make music and why I love doing this thing I do so much. 

These 5 hours are filled with: unknown hits to big dance bangers, music for happiness, loneliness, loving, hating, remembering, forgetting, friendship and everything in between.

Leeds-based DJ and producer BAKEY steps up for DMY with a blistering mix that's an immersive journey through UKG, techno, and bass.

“This mix is a pretty straight-up reflection of where I’m at right now as a DJ," BAKEY explains. "A mixture of UKG, a few techno bits, and some percussive bass. It’s definitely more heads-down than what I’d play at a festival. Feels more like the kind of set I’d run in a dark, low-ceiling room, proper sound, with a close crowd that’s super locked in.”
