Cyprus Marsh Frogs

Background sounds of a Cattle Egrets(Bubulcus ibis) colony with Mauritanian (Berber)Toads (Amietophrynus mauritanicus) and Mediterranean Tree Frogs (Hyla meridionalis).

Recorded at Barrage Imi-N-Laârba, near Aït Ourir, Morocco on the 14th April 2015 with a spaced pair of omni mics into a Sony PCM M10.

Frogs, Toads And Cattle Egrets

Just after the sun sets frogs that have been concealing themselves in shallow pockets of rain water begin to sing from the coastal pine woods forest, Jonathan Dickenson State Park, Jupiter, Florida. Recorded with Audio Technica 4025 X/Y stereo microphone & Sound Devices Mix Pre D.

Night Time Forest Frogs

This entry won the Habitat section in the 2015 WSRS Recording Competition. It was also awarded the Silver Fox Trophy for best recording. 

These 2-minutes were selected from a 2-hour recording, made with a pair of MKH406’s arranged ORTF in a homemade wind cage placed on a tripod in the reed bed. The recorder used was a Fostex FR-2LE. 

The marsh was at Barrage Imi-N-Laârba, near the town of Aït Ouri, 50km from Marrakesh. As well as crickets, the main species heard are the deeper-voiced Berber Toads (Amietophrynus mauritanicus), Sahara Frog (Pelophyllax saharicus) and the rasping sounds of Mediterranean Tree Frogs (Hyla meridionalis).


Evening at a Moroccan Marsh

Recording in forest after rain at Dore Lake, Saskatchewan : 1)two frogs battle back and forth, 2) crescendo of entire pond and 3) lone frog croaks against the wind.

NOTE: This is one of a series of recordings I made during the night of March 21-22, as I hiked up the south slopes of El Yunque National Forest in the dead of the night. At first I was overwhelmed by the choruses ... they were much too cacophonous to suit my fancy. But at higher altitudes in the wee hours of the morning, things settled down and I got some very nice mixtures of sounds ... magical and hypnotic soundscapes that soothed my mind and drew me effortlessly and completely into my natural surroundings, erasing any thoughts of the outside world.

Pig Frogs Pa Hay Okee

Southern cricket frogs, with their distinctive song described as metallic balls clacking together, sing out looking for love in a bald cypress strand (a linear swamp forest) in Everglades National Park, Florida.  Occasional pig frogs croak underneath and a stiff breeze blows. Recorded in ORTF stereo with pair of Line Audio CM3 pencil cardioid microphones and a Sound Devices MixPre-3 recorder. February 2018.

Southern Cricket Frogs - Long

In the Amazonian Forest in the small village of Tauary, frogs and Toads are singing during the night close to the Tefé River. Some crickets in background, and some fish in the river sometimes.

1 Hour: Toads and frogs during the night

Brought out by a rain storm, toads and frogs call out as thunder continues to roll across the cypress and saw grass forest at the Big Cypress Preserve, part of the everglades near Miami, Florida. 00:05 Southern Toad, 00:11 Green Tree Frog, Spring Peeper frogs' birdlike chirp throughout, and 03:20 far off Red Shouldered Hawk. Recorded in XY Stereo with Audio Techinica BP4025 and MixPre-3, 40hz low cut and 57 Db gain. One continuous recording with EQ applied in post. May 2018.

Amphibian Rain Call

During the afternoon in a field close to the small village of Benesti, some toads are singing, accompanied by a light wind and some birds.

Three Verse Florida Frogs

As the last noisy chorus of three southern cricket frogs fades out for the night, quieter creatures fill the swamp forest with more subtle sounds until dawn. Swamp Forest Late Night

Deep in the Harenna Forest there are small ponds and puddles created by the constant humidity of the cloud forest. Frogs congregate in these areas and call at all times of day and night, along with insects and birds. 
This is a recording I made on a muggy, lazy afternoon. It was overcast and quite hot so the birds were mostly quiet, but the frogs didn't seem to mind. I love how the water and vegetation reflect their loud calls.

Rain dripping from cypress trees after a summer storm provides  backdrop to rolling thunder, emerging green tree frogs and song of a hooded warbler. No low cut, 68 dB gain, limiters on.
