Here's an example of how we've been doing the rehearsals for the new record. Zach Hoeppner is in England. I record our guitar, bass, organ parts on my phone and send them to him. He records his parts on an iPad with a terrible acoustic guitar, puts some garageband plug-ins on it, makes his parts sound good somehow, and sends it back to us. Listen to him get all spaced out on the end of this demo version. And hooray he's coming back this week!

This album tells a story. It’s a record for people who have felt lonely and disconnected, on the outside of the good stuff that seems to be so accessible to everyone else. These are songs that holler about how good it is to be found, songs that I’d like to hear, sing, and play – as a response to the love that I’ve been shown.

- Ravine Sessions -

This recording session started as a simple perk to give to people who supported the recording of my album Father's Heart. I said that I would head into the studio with a friend and lay down each of the songs again, but with just one guitar, very different from the full rock and roll production of Father's Heart.

My friend Dave and I set up shop in a friends' parent's house in the woods. I brought three guitars into the studio- 6-string acoustic, 12-string, and a classical. I intended to record a few songs on each. When we recorded the classical I felt that the atmosphere it created was very unique and intimate. We liked it so much that we scrapped what we had done on the other guitars and did all the songs on the classical.

We recorded totally live- just one voice and guitar. No overdubs- not even a metronome. I had to sing very softly to allow the quiet classical to be recorded properly. I'm barely above a whisper most times on these songs. I was so surprised by the way this turned out, and very pleased. These songs tell my story of being brought out of fear and shame into the loving family of my Father God in a very vulnerable, gentle way.
