If We Are

I grew up in a household where fighting was a part of everyday life. Violence was normal and a language I understood.

I was the youngest of four brothers. 
We had a physically abusive father who was struggling to care for our dying mother.

At a very early age I remember my dad screaming at me telling me to be a man. It was sink or swim, fight or die. So we fought. 

That had me fighting against most things in my life. Fighting against people that were trying to help me and a God-man who had come to die for my failures. I spent my effort swinging at the things that were bringing me life.

But one day I looked around and saw that I was far away from the savior, Jesus Christ and He started calling me back to Him. He showed me to use that violence that I knew so well against the things that were killing me.

You see it’s not if you’re swinging that matters, or even how hard.
It’s what you’re swinging at.
